More than 21% of collectables have been removed from WoW

Using wowhead filters to remove quest, conjured, and other misc. items, I’ve found that 21% of the collectable items in the game are no longer available, not including items no longer available due to pre-cata dungeons. To me that’s an astounding number. 1 out of every 5 items you might want to get in this game is no longer available. A lot of the removed items are also the best looking items in the game because they were big selling point rewards.

IMO all of these items should be brought back. I’ve already suggested a system whereby playing the current highest level content could give a currency that could be used to purchase removed items. But I also wanted to have separate discussion about just how much stuff Blizzard has removed and how FOMO makes this game unappealing to new and returning players, which is something we need in this community.

People have been saying, oh it’s not that much, oh 99% of rewards are still available. But that’s not true. The amount is actually staggeringly large.

Maybe it made sense in the past, but now that the game is old and it’s already a declining market and player base, I think it makes sense to switch from FOMO to nostalgia to get people to come back. People might come back and play the current content if it means they could unlock the stuff they missed when they were playing during their heyday.

What about all the collectors who paid lots of gold to buy things on the BMAH or farmed things when they were available to be farmed? Do they get a refund of their time and energy?

Not saying they should, just genuinely asking you what you’re take on those that would feel slighted by these.

I’m actually interested to see how you went about this because I can’t think of single expansion (ignoring vanilla) where 1/5 items have been removed.

No, not really. It’s really just a very small amount of stuff like mt/cm/pvp rewards that people want, not a bunch of clutter quests or low res junk from zul’gurub or whatever.

Just somebody desperately searching for anything to make their case look more reasonable. Very few things that people care about have been removed over the years, and most of the removed stuff has been fine, like pvp rewards.

Yeah does include stuff like old Steamy Romance novels or things like pets / mounts etc. Also does this include collectors edition things like the fact I can’t get a panda / diablo pet anymore because I didn’t buy Vanilla CE in 2006?

Elitism ruins this game and community. A plague on it.

the disease of laziness is what’s truly ruining this game and community… along with the black plague of entitlement.

Thank you, Ion. Please continue designing the game for elitist jerks.

Can’t win a 1984 Olympic medal, or a 2001 Super Bowl ring, or buy a new Saturn car, or a new VHS machine, or a CRT TV.

Some things are of their time.

good thing i’ve kept my royal seal of eldre’thalas :revolving_hearts:

They’ll bring it back when the game hits sub 100k players because all the fools here drove everyone away along with Blizzards :poop: decisions too.

Exclusivity has no place in games and it never will.

It’s remarkable how many people that was actually lost on.

Hm? Shadowlands launch was record participation, Dragonflight will be the same.

Delusional at best considering the current raid tier has the lowest participation ever.

Hmm, maybe it’s because people don’t care and have moved on, also raiding isn’t the end all be all like you and the dev team thinks it’s supposed to be.

Yeah, it’s too hard. The expansion was popular at launch, though, and the next one will be the same.

define collectibles.

are we talking mounts toys pets mogs?

or are we talking just items in general?

The raid isn’t too hard, people just don’t care and moved on, this is not rocket science.

Is this projection?

Anyways, Dragonflight will probably see record numbers again.
