How did we seriously not get Evoker Tanks based on the Black DF?
I’m still shocked we don’t have Earthwarden Shamans either yet. Bring back the 2H Shaman fantasy as a tank and using a beefier version of Earth Shield. Another spec for the 2H tank weapons with Blood DK.
Why is Blizzard sleeping on this? Druids have 4 specs and they released a bare minimum class with only 2 specs twice, at least adding to Evoker but never DH who could probably use a range spec. But I digress.
MORE TANK CLASS FANTASY WHEN?

Maybe they’ll follow the base set by SoD and give us shaman and warlock tanks. I also wouldn’t mind them ditching the “support” aspect of aug and making it a tank.
Also, the only reason druid has four is because they split feral and guardian

Why spend time making specs for a role most people dont enjoy or play
If you think more tank specs equates to more tank players, you’re wrong. The role trumps the spec.
It just results in the existing pool of tanks spread across more specs.

You say it like that’s a bad thing

For real. Such an obvious concept. They already had mechanics relating to it back in the day, with rockbiter weapon generating threat. They already wear shields. Let them use them properly!
Hopefully they’re treating season of discovery like a testing grounds for this type of thing.

Evokers are fun to play amongst all their specs, damage healing support and tank would be no different realistically. Just thematic and specific role.
There is also the fact players WANT 2H shaman returning, you really think people wouldn’t enjoy it as a tank spec?

Wholeheartedly disagree on this. Perhaps with the folks that don’t care about their characters and the classes, those like that are purely mechanics types and we might as well just have generic characters with traits for them.
But a lot of people actually care about their characters, and the class their character is. And might play different roles if their classes had those roles.
Honestly I think the real concern by group a is that this could happen, and then those in group b wouldn’t be good enough for group a and they’d just whine about it constantly.
Class role restriction is nothing more than elitism restricting lesser players from enjoying the game. Lore has gone out the window multiple expansions ago.

It’s only a good thing if they actually use the spec thou. Given half the current classes can be tanks and people still say “we don’t have enough tanks” I think it is safe to say the problem isn’t with access to being a tank but actually playing the role.

Pretty cute you think a shaman tanking spec will be 2H spec. Shamans use shields so it’ll be a shield spec. Most 2H weapons are strength anyway and polearms they can’t even use.
Evokers don’t need a tank spec and dracs don’t need additional classes. Their lore history plenty justifies the limitations and the black dragonflight is already represented with Aug.
Edit - And there are WAY too many tanks and melee in this game. Once you leave stupid babymode worthless content, LFG/R, you’ll discover this. The game, if anything, needs FAR more caster DPS and especially healers. Evokers were also the first time in the entire history of the game that casters gained a new class. Literally every new class was tank, melee, and once a healer. Range even LOST a spec by having Survival hunters turning melee (which I think overall was a giant net positive since there isn’t enough overlap to justify 3 range hunter specs).
Cue to enh and ele players that cant get into m+ or raid pugs unless they go tank spec.
A lot of this has already been tested, expansions ago… Wrath specifically. DK’s were a sort of test to see if allowing people to play whatever spec they want to tank would increase the tanking population. It didnt. They were looking to allow more specs to tank if it worked. They found out that the role attracts a certain type of person.
Its literally a waste of development time.

DK tanking in Wrath was a hot mess, there’s a reason it adapted to only Blood after awhile. You can’t hand someone trash and except them to enjoy it. If Blizzard actually made tanking as any of the 3 specs fluid and actually make sense, I’d see your point there. But they definitely did not, especially when you add in 3 specs that tanked as DW or 2H.
More Options =/= Good Options. An Evoker Tank would also only be melee in the sense the boss wants melee range but Evoker would still technically be ranged.
Shamans already have a melee spec, adding there wouldn’t take much effort especially with how they’ve designed class / spec talent trees to be separate. Interns could flesh out a shaman tank spec with how simple the concept would be to add.
Either way, you can have both. You’re right we need more healer and ranged DPS. I already suggested DH ranged spec. Take from SoD and make a mage healing spec. Why not have it all?

A massive undertaking for something that wont effect the issue with tanking?
Why not.

Not to mention as I stated, introducing Shaman tanking certainly would not be a “massive undertaking”
Nor would it be light work either.
So if Shaman became a tanking spec i would 100% play one. But i like tanking and already play multiple tanks.
Problem: i can only play 1 character at a time. Me becoming a shaman tank doesn’t increase the tanking pool nor solve the tanking shortage
More versions of the role. More chances to get new people interested in playing it. Maybe the hypothetical shaman tank will just be so compelling to play that we end up with several thousand new tanks in the community.

Thats me btw I always play my human paladin and will never abandon her I also play prot
Every new class WoW has ever introduced after Vanilla has had a tank spec aside Evokers.
So to say they’re not considering tank fantasy is an understatement.

If you are designing a new spec, for half a dozen classes.
Yes.
Just because you already have a few spell names already created that doesnt give you a cheat sheet to how the spec plays.
Prot Pally is different from ret pally.
Prot warrior is different from fury/arms warrior.
And 1990 of those 2000 tanks would just be the same tanks playing something else. Not changing the tanking population.

Honestly, they do not need more TANK specs right now, what they need to do is fix the ones already in place. Make them feel more fluid, more engaging, and (more fun). If they add more specs, then it just takes longer for the ones we already have to get fixed.
Prot Warriors need some love, BDK needs some love, I am sure Prot Pally would love to not have to stand and cast concecrate constantly either. DHs…well I think they are in a good spot, but never tanked as one so idk for sure.
Also, the RNG drop makes me sad on my tank, still trying to gear without getting into the sweatty mess of things and learning the dungeons with the affixes takes some time which makes things slow rolling.
Introduce new players(if people are coming to test it out) and this feeling gets multiplied by the anxiety of the community and the meta.
Last thoughts, they should actually make follower dungeons for people to run different affixs to understand what they do and feel it with NPCs before going into a party where you don’t know what personality you will get.
