But one thing I’ve always wondered, when on those elevator like things in the game…
What powers them? In Revendreth you saw the gargoyles turning them, but in the old world, I don’t recall seeing anything.

There’s a beacon hidden at the bottom. Every time a player auto runs and falls to their death, the beacon collects a portion of their soul. This provides enough power to keep the elevators running a whole hour.
All elevators are powered by necrotic magic.
Faith. Mostly faith that you won’t mistime the elevator and die in front of your group/raid.
Old gods operate most of them. The pain and suffering they cause grants them power. Just a few more elevator deaths and yshaarj will be back.
Magnets and hidden wizards.
I think about those poor mages that stand somewhere for an eternity holding open portals.
Did magic happened in a fantasy game?!!

Magic.
Mostly hydraulics with a pinch of death magic for those oops moments.
The one in the Antorus raid has a hamster wheel powering it on the bottom. It’s pretty cool. You can get a really good look at it, if you stand under it as it’s coming down.
every elevator in game should have character squish mechanics with blood just like antorus elevator
Been wondering this since 2004 when I first encountered the giant one at the southern end of the Barrens.
Seeing that giant elevator for the first time is one of the things that helped me fall in love with this game. I am a simple man.
Remember Quake and Doom. Teleporting on top of another player in an explosion of blood.
My guild decided to run that raid for transmog one night earlier this year (it had been a while for all of us). There were five of us, and as we were waiting for the elevator, BAM! We were all instantly dead.
Took us a second to realize what had just happened, and we literally were laughing about it for a good 15 minutes.
And every run in there since, anyone new that joins us, we bait them to stand there and then jump back to watch them get squished.
Good times.
