Hi,
I’m trying to learn French and I thought it would be a cool idea to try to play WoW in French to help supplement my learning. The only options are English, Spanish and Portuguese though. Does anyone know if there are plans to make more languages available later on? Maybe with Shadowlands, or even sooner? If not, I think it would be something worth considering.

You can do this now by editing the Config.wtf file in the WTF folder.
Change the following lines:
SET textLocale “enUS”
SET audioLocale “enUS”
to
SET textLocale “frFR”
SET audioLocale “frFR”
I did this when initially starting to learn French. However, I realized it’s a lot faster to learn by reading or listening to sources outside of the game.
Hmm, thanks for the suggestion. I might look into it, though, I’d be afraid of accidentally messing up the game.
I’ll put some thought into it though, thanks for the advice
You won’t mess up the game. WoW is translated into many different languages corresponding to the various parts of the world it’s played in, and all of these files are already present in the client. North American players, however, are limited to the 3 languages predominantly spoken in that region.
Making these changes will set your region to EU, allowing you to play the game with French dialogue and text while still playing on North American servers. You can change it back at any time by making changes in the config file. As long as you don’t change anything but those 2 lines, the game will play as normal.
There are a couple of things to note if you decide to change it.
-
Movement keybindings may be a bit off. You’ll have to go to “Raccourcis” in the ESC menu and change them back to normal.

You’ll need to rejoin the chat channels, using the French names. “Commerce” for “Trade,” “Général” for General.
