More class fantasies via Hero Specs

So one of the benefits of hero Specs is that it allowed players access to some class fantasies that may have never seen the light of day.

Best example now would probably be dark ranger for MM and BM.

But what other potential class fantasies could we have if Blizz were to make for hero Specs.

Well how about necromancer for locks, or spell breaker for warriors. Maybe even witch doctors for shaman. Void ranger for hunters? Ashen (Bolvar theme) for DKs?

I think full blown class skins would be a better way to express those class fantasies than hero talents.

Hero talents put you in the position where you have to choose between the class fantasy you want and the reality of the hero specs performance.

I always wished for Mage and Warlock talents where you could do a few moves in melee. I remember Legion teased that with this one mage NPC who was a spellblade and used her flaming sword to fight in melee, that was so cool.

They gave them a purple shot and called it done. Great fantasy.

They could definitely do more.

Maybe make auto attacks purple and deal partial shadow dmg

Difference is that the themes don’t clash with the classes and don’t have to grind anything out

Here’s my beef with Hero Specs.

Half of them could’ve been full fledged 4th specs (or even entire classes).

And the other half should’ve been left on the cutting board.

Like Shado-pan monk is basically a ninja, it could be it’s own spec. But what the heck is a “conduit of the celestials” genna do? What class fantasy are you even offering me blizzard?

Well you channel the 4 celestials

I have a coin :v:

I think spellblade should just be it’s own class.

Could also have a spell thief/arcane trickster class.

The mage class could honestly be split into like 5 different classes if you wanted. It’s such a broad concept.

Harvey dent fantasy

Ah yes. I see.

What the heck is a class skin?

It’s just a blizzard fantasy, like demon hunters, evokers, and DKs.

Meaning it’s not a typical DnD archetype, but something unique to warcraft

Something that isn’t in the game yet.

Basically it’s a collection of aesthetic modifications to spells to lean into an aspect of the class fantasy.

The warlock green fire is a really primitive implementation of one.

You could do one for necromancer for warlock for instance simply by making undead models to swap into all the demons and to change spell effects to utilize the SL undead particle effects.

Putting these as unlockables behind class specific questlines legion style would be way cooler than these hero talents they are going to be struggling to balance all expansion imo.

Death Knights I think have a great class fantasy. And just look at the name, it immediately gives you a clear concept of what it does.

Evokers are the worst. What the heck even is that? Would’ve been better off calling it a “dragonmancer” or something like that. But “being a dragon” is not a strong class concept.

And Demon Hunters are also weak. Which I think is why they still haven’t given it a 3rd spec. Have you tried thinking up a third spec for DHs? What would it even look like? maybe a midrange class based around chaosflame?

Meanwhile if you asked anyone to come up with a new mage spec they could give you 5.

A worth WoW class needs to be a strong enough class fantasy to sell itself to a player, but also diverse enough to offer 3 unique specs.

Blade Dancer = Weak.
Necromancer = Strong, but has a lot of overlap with warlock and DKs.
Spellblade = Strong (plenty of room to take from mage ideas) Although I think battle mage is a stronger name.
Dragon Tamer = Strong concept, but not diverse enough to be 3 specs.
Summoner = Weak but plenty diverse, infact probably too diverse.

God please, this is all I want

Many people have over the years. Top contenders include a ranged spec based around glaive throwing and a debuffing spec drawing inspiration from that one DH NPC who uses a scythe.
