More arena tournaments that barely anyone is watching

bliz really needs some new ideas on this

Less than 5% of shadowlands owners ever watch this stuff

bliz wishes they could tap into the vibe in the old days where pvp videos got up to millions of views

what? u dont enjoy watching fire mages?

Early season cups were double to triple the viewers of this crap.

People are bored of some classes being absolute gods and being extremely forgiving while others just sort of exist, badly, and get punished for the smallest of mistakes - or just not having tools to deal with things in general.

Most people don’t watch because the results will be predictable:

The CC is out of control, the burst is too high, the healers are too reliable, and in the end the winning team is going to be some combo of warrior/caster/Hpal(priest)

The matches themselves aren’t that interesting as most just run into high dampening. The only question is what balance changes will be made after.

What if I told you the game is old and bland and ppl are tired of watching legion rebooted for the 3rd time with the same pvp talents and the same talent trees.

Or that anything that happens between cds almost doesn’t matter and when CDs happen either someone dies instantly or no one dies til what was it, 81% dampening today?

81% damp? I watched like two of Creed’s games, one of GG and then went off to do outside things.

And yeah. Same stale boring meta, same stale boring design. No pressure outside of CD’s isn’t fun. CD’s killing you because the enemy class has shorter CD’s than your trinket or defensives and dying in 0.4s isn’t fun.

86% my bad

Came down to a 1v2 even

I’m not sure what can be done. Would reverting back to ooming and being rage starved but all your abilities hit hard be a good design? Target locked combo points?

Or this builder > spender (neither matter) 400% increase in dam during CDs style

who knows, im bored

My issue with the game is definitely that the majority of classes are able to live through other classes complete dps CDs and after the fact be full health then proceed to one shot. This is toxic and people don’t want to watch any DPS go behind a pillar to heal themselves to full. Even the people who play the BS hybrid classes won’t watch it.

There’s a difference between LoSing damage when the enemy is threatening.

I don’t play a Fire Mage or with one but I’ll take getting one shot any day vs any hybrid who just runs at 75% health to heal.

I want arena to have PvP combat, not around the pillar OVER and OVER until their CDs are back. This CD is the most boring PvP expansion I can remember.

Game can’t be good without long(er) matches because the gameplay inherently leans towards longer games, and the average player is constantly screaming for short matches. It’s a lose-lose from developer PoV; retail will never be good again because of this.

The most dramatic improvement that could be made would be to follow the late-WOTLK model of high sustained damage, moderate burst… But even that won’t work because in that meta, too, games end up being long and the average player doesn’t have the attention span for a game that lasts longer than 1 cycle of player CDs.

The playerbase is too vapid to allow for quality PvP any more, and the devs will always pander to the average player because it’s Activision and their only goal is to appease the average idiot giving them money so that they continue to give money, at the expense of game quality.

That’s a lot of opinion.

No one wants to watch one team perma snared for the entirety of the game on the largets map in the game hug pillars because neither side has true kill potential outside 1 min+ cds

Of course an aging game almost drained entirely of its heart is part of it too

Obviously. Never said Sacrolash was good for the game.

Even if teams ~did~ have ‘kill potential outside 1min+ CDs,’ we’d still see tourney matches damp AF that everyone would still complain about because they’d be trading appropriately at the top levels, and still nothing would die.

There is no good way to accelerate a meta to the extent that the average player wants without grossly detracting from PvP quality.

The best way to go about it would be to make mistakes extremely punishable via high non-CD damage and high healing output to match such that any CC on healer can mean a kill if not respected.
But even if this became the reality, we would still see ultra-damp matches because teams like C9 are so good at the game that punishable mistakes like that are rare. This would also favor certain types of comps (I.E RMP) because they can reliably create these situations much more often than some others.
The only way to make games fast is to artificially accelerate games such that kills are scored through proper respect (AKA having no counterplay), and that’s piss-poor PvP quality.

It is impossible to reconcile an ultra-fast meta (5min games, consistently) with high quality PvP because high-quality PvP requires substantial mistakes to be made for kills to be scored, and at the top levels, these mistakes are rare.

I doubt it’s impossible.

You’re always going to have momentum based comps and comps that are based around late game.

They just have to be engaging.

Like why does sarcolash exist? It doubled that match duration by proxy.

The devs could do nothing but watch bfa destro then go the entirely opposite way in SL?

Net result : not fun to play, not fun to play vs, not fun to watch.

You’re really hinging on players dont wanna watch longer matches cus they don’t have the attn span is just kinda boomerish

DotA international matches can long but that doesn’t stop them from racking in a 40 million dollar prize pool and selling out arenas.

Just turn off the stream when you see Wizard vs Wizard tbh.

I would be so down if comps were locked to range/melee/healer or tank (support whatever you wanna call it)

Ya that’s not a thing. In fact the opposite: short attention spans demanding artificially short arena games is much more “boomerish”.

The available evidence supports the theory.

Yes, and the state of the game (i.e favoring offense vs defense to variable degrees) dictates which of these will be predominant within the meta.

Because they couldn’t figure out a better way to make Aff lock playable, even after devoting resources to the rework. Not saying there isn’t a better way, simply that this is their bandaid fix.

I agree that current arena is not fun to play, watch, nor play against.

But there is no solution that will satisfy everyone, because the only solution to this low-quality PvP is more meaningful decisions/button presses which inevitably translates to longer (average) games, and that conflicts with the average player’s desire to have short ADHD-friendly matches.
It’s simply a Lose-Lose from developer PoV.

How is that even a response lol.

Look man if you think wow players dont have the attn span to watch matches longer than 5 mins and the devs cant possibly design a WoW that could engage an audience for longer than a farts duration… that’s entirely your opinion.

Even tho I mentioned a popular esport that pro games can last an hour.

Dunno why you so vehemently disagree with the game is aged, the playeebase is bored with a 2nd legion rehash and just the overall state of pvp isnt engaging is why viewership is low.

The obstinate “kids these days” just cant watch a long match is what im calling boomer-esque.

Tldr: game sucks is why no one watches. Watch a team hug a pillar and snare the enemy team by just their pve rotation for 19 mins is why no one watches

My opinion

If more people watched it maybe they would stop saying rogues are OP…

I guess it’s an opinion, but it’s based on an abundance of evidence… Have you really not seen the volumes of “mAtChEs aRe tOo LoNg” “mAtChEs sHoUlD bE fIvE mInUtEs oR lEsS” posts in every stream, on these forums, and even in the chat during tourneys?

Don’t disagree with this at all, actually.

Agreed. My position doesn’t contradict this perspective: my position simply supposes that the game is forced to be as is because it is between a rock and a hard place (having to choose between satisfying the playerbase that, generally, wants short games, and having higher quality matches that last longer).

Why see a tournament in which the class I play (DH) does not appear, so most of them, nothing to learn from my class in tournaments

plenty of people watch. Its on youtube so you do not have to watch it live its all being recorded. Your just to dimwitted to figure that out
