I actually started the game during MOP and have fond memories. I started really disliking things as scaling took hold (like in Legion). I did try Classic Wow but did not like it because surviving was way too difficult for my taste (compared to retail). I am wondering if Cataclysm Classic will be similar to MOP for people like me, given that the game was massively revamped for Cataclysm. Can someone who played original Cataclysm and MOP give me their opinion? Class-wise, I sort of like Ret Paladin
right now in retail.
.
Cataclysm isnât really âclassicâ era to be honest, I donât think itâs gonna go over well
Will probably have hype/steam for the first 2 months or so, then itâll fizzle out is my guess
Classic MoP though? I can see that being a hit
The amusing thing about Cataclysm Classic is that Cataclysm is the real start of the âmodernâ era. Azeroth gets Cataâd, the questlines are all streamlined into zone storylines, mainstream use of LFD means youâre bouncing all of the world into dungeons instead of having to actively recruit and run to them.
But on topic as far as Ret Paladin is concernedâŠto be perfectly honest the bare bones gameplay of Ret paladin hasnât really changed since we got Holy Power, in Cataclysm. You will be building and spending.
Now how that feels, will depend on if you find that playstyle fun now or not. Fundamentally speaking, it doesnât really change until Legion, and only marginally so because the Ashbringer. At least in my opinion.
MOP resulted in a lot of homogenization across classes. Cata still uses the older talent system(although truncated points-wise) and each class still has unique things it brings to the table. Honestly PVP was better in Cata, but arguably raid content in MOP was better. As to the 900 million haters going âoh wahh its not classicâ⊠tell them to hush - you know theyâre playing anyway and âclassicâ would be anything⊠old(er than Retail). Much like a 57 chevy and a 38 edsel are both classic cars. You may like one more than the other, but theyâre both classics.
Cata did one thing really well.
Tol Barad.
I absolutely loved doing the PVP event and then how the winning factions side would be booming with people forming groups for the raid.
The issue is I donât think this will really be recaptured by classic Cata. I donât know why I feel that way. Maybe itâs because I think Cata will lack engagement.
Outside of that, I donât personally think Cata offers anything for you that MoP didnât already give you.
Yea im not sure , since i originally leveled in vanilla then played all the way through, but i think it got alot easier in Cata and all the past expansions got xp buff, not sure if they will do that in classic
Or⊠maybe the reason lots of people seem to have cold feet/reservations about Cata is because, the silent majority happens to have an unfavorable opinion of it?
Sometimes the most simple explanation is the correct one - thereâs a reason most of the internet/most of the playerbase seems to view Cata unfavorably
Thanks for the comments. I am aware that not everyone is thrilled about Cataclysm, but like I said, I started in MOP and did like that. What I donât like about current Retail is mostly the scaling. If Cataclysm is going to be similar to MOP, that is a plus for me
personally.
I started playing during Cataclysm, but I had a friend that brought me into the game so someone to teach me the little hidden tricks that the UI/dialog does not make obvious to you, plus someone to do leveling with and try end-game content. I liked Cata, but I liked MoP even more and have liked, more or less, every expansion since Cata, although Shadowlands felt like a low-point in game enjoyment.
As others have said, Classic seems to be for those that most enjoyed the game during original WoW (Vanilla) or during Wrath of the Lich King. My understanding, having not played anything prior to Cata when it was current content, is that Cata was very divisive because of significant changes in game-play, talents, etc., so I agree with Warzug that it may not go over well with those folks that split from Retail to relive the past experience (apparently with new twists via âseason of discoveryâ?!).
Certainly the playerbase for Cata Classic will be smaller than it was during original Cata Retail, in part due to dwindling population, and in another part due to that dwindling population being split largely among Classic and Retail. Not sure how that will impact your impression/enjoyment for playing Cata Classic, but if you donât like current expansions, then might as well try something pre-Legion.
As an aside, my very first character is a Ret Paladin (I have two more lol).
LOL. Ironically, I actually was playing BM Hunter when I started during MOP. It was during late WOD and Legion that I started play Ret Pally because I did not like the hunter rework that was done at the time. It is possible I might actually like both Hunter and Ret Pally in Cataclysm.
Cata had some decent class designs. Being able to choose what spec your hunter pet could be was amazing. At the start, heroics well were actually heroic, and not like Wrath heroics where you just ran in and steamrolled everything. Man the complaining on those were hilarious.
MoP, well i loved MoP. Each zone extremely well laid out and varying. Throne of Thunder was one of the best raids ever made. Not to mention timeless isle. Man that was some of the best content they did, and no matter how much they try and replicate that experience, it never was the same for zones like it afterwards
i like how everyone likes to forget the awful design of halls of origination where tanks just basically skipped over half the dungeon. what you a cloth class that needs that cloth hit gear that ONLY drops off the optional bosses in halls? TOO BAD. grind to exalted with dragonmaw instead.
