Seems like characters get progressively weaker as they approach 70, to the point where at 69, a player is at the weakest they’re going to be. They die easily, they contribute very little to groups, and they struggle to survive in open world content.
What’s the philosophy here? I don’t get it.

It’s the philosophy the game has always had; it’s just that before they started scaling all content to our level, the power decline of our characters was hidden behind the illusion that we were moving into harder and harder zones.
I can understand that. I got progressively weaker as I approached 70 and now I’m getting progressively weaker as I approach 80. But one thing for sure, I’m at my best when I open a window and yell:
“GET OFF MY LAWN !!!”
Half the time no one is there so I sort of close the window and go make a coffee.
Well most of the time. When you get old you see things.

I found this out just how weak you could be at 70, when on my hunter I spent 100% of my bronze earnings into mog. I was getting ripped apart in the open world.
I rerolled, started dumping bronze into a new toon and have gotten much more powerful to the point that mobs and bosses are a joke.
your at your strongest in this game at 10-11 and at your weakest the last 10 lvls you have to level with a fresh level cap being peak weakness. its been like that forever
It may have been like that in retail up until now, but the MOP power-up features make that scaling issues way, way more obvious. If I’m in a heroic dungeon group and the tank is level 64-69, I just leave.

mop remix is so bad that they had to patch it multiple times to fix lvl 70s being so weak. 61-63 is the strongest you will be at the later levels until you have started upgrading gear and getting a bunch of threads
are you upgrading your gear as you go? or youre running around in ilvl10 gear ?
u get so many bronze when u hit 70 maybe thats why?
" why em i getting destroyed at level 50-70!?! "
said the guy literally wasting all of the currency in mogs instead of upgrading gear out of lvl 6
Their philosophy is “YOLO”. The remix is going away in two months anyways.
Not TBC and WotLK. Early quest gear quickly replaced the best gear from the previous expansion and you started off pretty weak. Not sure when it changed to the current system where if you start with previous BiS gear you’re extremely over powered and progressively get weaker.
But why this system that’s designed for dealing with expansion to expansion scaling is in a one off leveling experience is a good question.
enjoy getting curb stomped by a random monkey
Since I’m not a raider, I typically experienced a large boost in power equipping the first round of new expansion gear; so yes there was a brief period of helplessness while in old gear, but I typically felt very powerful by the time I’d gained my first level in the new expansion. To be fair, I didn’t realize people in BiS were experiencing something similar in the old days. Thanks for pointing that out.
But what really stands out to me was the truly comical consistency of my levelling experiences each ending with reaching max level, heading out into the world to celebrate and promptly getting killed by the first wolf I ran into.
The game’s not real, so it doesn’t matter to me what kills me if I look good while I’m being killed.
Fake power in a fake game is fake.
Yeah, what expansion didn’t have you destroying at level x0 and slowing down rapidly by level x5
youre not a very good troll. or a terrible player. anyways good luck with your mental problems
