My first 70 on MoP Remix was a priest. Using the free 40k from leveling, I thought I would spend some of it on transmog sets for my mail and leather classes that I main in retail - notably the Firebird set and a couple of the monk sets since they weren’t red implying I could buy and learn them for my alts despite being on a cloth toon. I bought and right clicked to learn them, but did not see any acknowledgement in chat that the appearances had been learned at all. I switched over to check on my hunter and did not have the appearances, likewise for my demon hunter and druid.
The tooltips for these items say that the appearances can be used by all classes of their respective armor type (so the mail items can be worn by shamans, hunters, and evokers for example) yet they do not appear in my collection on the alts that are supposed to be able to wear them. I haven’t tested on other armor types because right now it just feels like I wasted my bronze on nothing so I’m avoiding buying any more transmog sets until this issue is acknowledged and fixed (and I either get my appearances or a refund because I spent quite a bit of bronze on these transmog sets!).
I checked to see if individual pieces were learned instead of sets as some in similar threads have suggested. This was not true. In the preview window I have an addon that tells me which items from a set are learned and they say “appearance not learned” when I preview the items from the vendor. Those sets are also not red for the characters that should have them and do not say “already learned”.
If learning appearances is gear type-based then I shouldn’t have been allowed to buy them in the first place while on a cloth-wearing class.

The transmog only appears as a set for the class the tier set was originally for. Regalia of the firebird, being a shaman set, will not show up in the set tab for evokers or hunters and will have to be selected as individual items.
This is a good suggestion but the individual items aren’t learned either. The ones I’ve looted in raid on that toon are learned, but I’m missing items from each set that should have been included in the ensemble. My preview window using the Narcissius addon reflects this when I try on the ensemble and it shows the items included in the ensemble and whether or not the appearance is learned.
What the addon says you’ve learned or not isn’t really relevant
It is when I spend 5k bronze on each ensemble and have missing pieces and can, for some reason, still buy the ensemble because the appearances haven’t been registered as learned. I’m not even the only person that’s made a thread about this here. It’s almost like it’s not working as intended, either because I can buy (and right click to consume) mail appearances on a cloth character to get nothing in return or because I can buy an ensemble and not get all the appearances in the set or not having it shown as already learned on the vendor on a character that can use mail. Something is obviously amiss here.

It was known before remix fully came out that that notification showing all appearances learned for an ensemble wouldn’t show up if that ensemble wasn’t for your armor class. And again, what the addon says doesn’t matter. Log over and physically check, noting that the appearances for some of the pieces will not be the same as the tier set, as the tier set is only available to one specific class. The ensembles do add a lookalike with the same name for pieces that historically did not have an alternative.
For example, I just bought this on my timerunner monk. On my retail priest, I have all the appearances, though only the helm and gloves are of the burning scroll. The shoulders are under shoulderpads of the twisted fate, the chest is the robe of the unknown fear, etc.
There are some valid issues reported, but the majority of bug reports on this is pure misconception on how the system works.
I bought all the World Apparel ensembles and a few of them suddenly complained that I had already acquired the set for the ‘White: Ensemble: Trailseeker’s Laminar Armor’. But when I checked on my hunter, it said that it was already learned, which it wasn’t as I was missing the pieces.
A similar and stranger issue came up when I had learned all three ‘Tian Monastery Clothing’ but when I checked on my other characters, Leather/Mail/Plate all had those clothing appearances learned. However, my cloth classes only learned the Red and not the other two colors.
I did log over to my hunter and looked for the individual pieces and looked at the vendor, as per my original post. On said hunter, there are even sets I had already collected prior to Remix that were unbuyable because I had already had the appearances. The Firebird ensemble was not unbuyable, and appearances from that set were missing and unlearned.
In any case this was acknowledged as a bug by the GM I had opened a ticket with about this and I was told to post a thread in the bug report forum by the GM because there wasn’t anything they could do for me until the devs were made aware of it and could make a fix. Specifically referenced in the ticket by the GM was another, different ensemble set that was bugged that I hadn’t bought yet, so it’s not even limited to the Firebird set.
That’s all. I’m not posting this for no reason or because I’m too stupid to know how transmog works. I was told to post by a GM who said it was a bug.

Yeah this is definitely a bug. The cosmetic ensemble versions of the pandaren starting zone gear are unlearnable if you got the plate/mail/etc versions from the actual zone, even if the ensembles would give you something new, IE the cosmetic versions.

Simply Put:
Purchased Ensemble: Regalia of the Burning Scroll for 5k Currency
Tooltip for Regalia of the Burning Scroll:
“Appearances only usable by Mages, Priests, and Warlocks.”
On my mage “shift-p” for 'appearances"
under ‘sets’ then search for “burning soul”
shows up as learned
doing the same procedure on priest comes up as ‘no set found’ basically
doing the same on warlock comes up as ‘no set found’
pov (point of view) end user / retail client: xmog is broken… OR at the very least Tooltip stating “Appearance usable by MAGE (YES), Priest (no), and Warlock(no)” is broten.
I understand that Burning Scroll was probably originally only mage set and is y it shows for mage… but tooltip and end user dont
please fix for player xp (good not bad)
tysm!
the end user doens’t really want to have to google all the different items in said set to be able to do what the tooltip already seems to imply! ?

Regalia of the Firelord has the same issues for the Orange and Green color sets. Just picked them up on my 'Lock, learned them and they are a no show on my hunter except for the dress version of the chestpiece headdesk
If you get an error “already appears in your collection” when buying a token you think you already learned before, this is a safe way to see if you did know it or not. You can sell the token immediately back to the vendor for a full bronze refund.
I guess the bug is that a set for another class won’t come up for other classes with the same armor type in the collections tab. Some items need to be manually searched for on the class with the same armor type and it won’t appear in the collections tab like for the class its intended for.
The token didn’t say “Already Known” on the vendor either, even though I do know it.
Might be some sort of bug or something. I’m not sure.
Blizzard is probably expecting 11.0 to fix a lot of these issues since being able to learn mogs with any class regardless of usability necessitates being able to see if you already know appearances for unusable items. As such, I wouldn’t expect any fixes until that patch drops.
Best solution is to manually track what ensembles you’ve successfully been able to consume, and keep the ones that are acting funky in your bags.
I bought “Ensamble: Regalia of the Burning Scroll” (Priest, Warlock, Mage) on my Warlock. the 4 pieces didn’t show in transmog or set list. Thought it was a glitch, waiting 2 days and looked again, still nothing. I bought the same item on my priest, still didn’t show in transmog or set list. In the meantime, I learned that the Regalia of the Burning Scroll set was a Mage only in original Pandaria. I made a Mage and both purchases are showing under Set, just 2 different colors. I am assuming because this was originally a Mage only set that that is the reason why I can only see on a mage. Hopefully once Remix is done, it will show on all toons. Assuming you will need to buy one on each toon to get the 3 different colors. Retail: Two sets, two different colors showing on my mage but not on my warlock or priest.
