Plunderstorm doubled as a test bed for an Action Combat oriented combat system. I’m convinced of it.
In a similar vein, MOP Remix feels like it is doubling as a test bed for Itemization and Character Building changes. Specifically, the Gem/Socket system in MOP Remix.
Maybe they are gauging how/whether they can introduce such things and balance them, or maybe they are gauging how the community accepts or rejects a system like this.
thoughts?

I mean its a plausible theory.

Its just a silly end of expansion game mode.
Dont over think it.
If it’s anything besides fun filler, it’s the “should we bother with MOP classic or not” test.
I have a feeling this’ll be stuff limited to something contained like these events, as this isn’t really about balancing and just wonky whatever. Whereas the actual retail game needs to not be so whacked out with these powers.
I am going with possible especially with the sigh, newly announce Blizzard game focused on pve.
I would put more stock on Plundersuck being a glorified proof of concept test more than I think MoP remix is a new game mode.
Like with anything though, if a company unexpectedly strikes gold, it would be stupid of them to ignore a customer base throwing money at them for more of it
I think it’s possible we’ll see it as a new seasonal thing that comes and goes to offer a different take on leveling.
And hey, I’m all for it. I haven’t really been feeling making alts as of late for classes I already have up to cap, and in the off chance that I do make one, I usually just speedrun through dungeons up to cap, so it’s been nice having new systems to play with in a contained space.
It feels unobtrusive enough to me; you get an experience through old content that you might not have played in awhile (or for newcomers after MoP never even tried it *at all) with some new twists to freshen it up, and it’s a big event with a lot of rewards, so everyone’s doing it right now, but we’re all going to go back to the regular game as soon as its over.

Plunderstorm can go further. That was a test to put any version of WoW onto consoles and phones given the UI was literally mobile game UI.

If they decide to monetize gems I will quit.
im past the honeymoon phase with MoP
its a jank borrowed power system. nothing more.
rather than letting you play how you want, you’re forced into a completionist loop with Heroic Dungeons and Normal Raids to fill out your kit.
Then it’s off to the races with the ilvl grind after your level grind. and then theres the bronze grind.
Absolutely hate it now that I see it for what it is.
I really don’t like the idea of gems/powers that don’t fit my class fantasy becoming a permanent fixture.
Frost Death Knight casting fire spells is weird and while it’s fun for Remix, I’d hate for it to exist in Retail.
Also the scrapper system is straight-up ripped from BfA, I remember the interface artwork lol.
Yep. We are nothing but beta testers for far away crap.
To hell with Remix, i want mogs but not if they’re delivering like this.
I’d rather they have Plunderstorm Season 2.
lmao.
If this new stuff is popular, why wouldn’t it be re-used?
WoW has tried all kinds of whacky concepts other MMORPGs haven’t touched long before DF.
It’s like saying M+ back in Legion doubled as a test bed for possible distant future system changes. It ain’t exactly insightful.
