Should any of this stuff make a comeback now that we are going back to maelstrom weapon design?

In particular, I’m looking at the defensive toolkit which seems worlds better than alpha:
-
sham rage + healing wolves + healing tide totem + spirit walker’s grace as baseline defensives
-
astral shift/stone bulwark totem/ancestral swiftness/ancestral guidance/primal elementalist (reinforce) as defensive talent options
-
10% damage reduction from lighting shield and a magic debuff dispel baked into sham rage as glyph defensive options.
However, there’s also alot of other interesting stuff like:
- flame shock procing resets of lava lash CD,
- searing totem building primal primer type stacks,
- Lava lash spreading flame shock
- a set bonus that grants maelstrom weapon stacks on stormstrike (would need to be reduced frequency/proc chance now w/stormbringer),
- maelstrom weapon working on hex, etc.
Don’t forget the spell that caused all mobs with flame shock dot to explode for AOE damage. That was a fantastic bit of AOE that has been replaced with crash lightning. I like the mechanic of spreading flame shocks with lava lash though.

That wasn’t MOP. That was WOD. Personally I prefer crash lightning. Fire nova aoe spam never felt like enhancement to me.
I would enjoy not feeling squishy again. Especially for the fact we can’t use Astral Shift while stunned. At the very least we need healing wolves and sham rage back, maybe Ancestral Guidance too.
You’re forgetting one important thing though. (Blizzard please give us back the MoP version of Ascendance for us please please please)
Ascendance doing nature damage so that it scaled with mastery was kind of OP and made ascendance’s power level very tied into mastery. I’m ok with wind damage (although i do miss the old lightning graphic) but I certainly wouldn’t mind it being baseline so we have an actual baseline DPS CD.
But my two top asks would be:
- improvements to our defensive toolkit (sham rage or HOT on astral shift + 10% increase to damage/healing per maelstrom stack)
- making feral spirit a meaningful CD again - my personal preference would be to make feral spirit generate maelstrom stacks (like maybe 1 per second). and maybe up the damage
Fire Nova was definitely a thing in MoP.
