It would be nice if Moonkin form allowed the use of all healing spells. It seems reasonable to me since Moonkin form is a spell casting form and healing spells are spells and you can already cast Regrowth while in Moonkin form. This would provide Restoration Balance Affinity specs the benefit of being able to stay in Moonkin form while healing. As of right now I would choose Feral Affinity or Guardian Affinity over Balance Affinity, but if you could cast all healing spells in Moonkin form the three different Affinity talent options would be more balanced in terms of what they have to offer.
I give you credit for being a creative thinker / dreamer, but that will not happen. The armor of Moonkin
form (even via Balance Affinity
) is too strong. You can review with something like DejaCharacterStats and compare the armor between Bear form and Moonkin; They are close.
For the same reason, Feral cannot just use their attacks in Bear form; It would be too OP.
I don’t know that I agree with Bytes. I play Balance with Restoration affinity in PvP, and its off healing with protector of the grove and Oath of the Elder Druid is very strong. If I could also swiftmend without coming out of form, it would be even better. But it doesn’t really matter to me from a power perspective that I can’t use rejuvenation or swiftmend in moonkin form. If I’m offhealing someone, I’m not being attacked. So I don’t care about my armor. Being forced out of Moonkin form just makes the spec a little clunkier to play (which is never good from a design perspective), but that’s not a big deal if you have cancelform on a good bind, which I do.
Plus, most balance druids in PvP play guardian affinity, and it has unbelievably strong self-healing while in bear form (with higher armor AND an HP bonus), which is even stronger with Oath and Celestial Guardian. (And you can actually do a lot of damage with Thorns, your DoTs ticking, and maybe a Starfall out). So I don’t really see how allowing us to remain in moonkin form while we cast one swiftmend every 15 seconds (at the cost of two globals), or a crappy rejuvenation which does nothing, is really going make a difference.
To be clear: don’t forget that even a resto Druid’s hots are garbage, and go try casting a rejuvenation + swiftmend combo while you are actively being dps’d and see how that goes. You’ll get murdered so fast that the extra armor you could have had from MK form would not have saved you. Any DPS can do far more than your swiftmend in damage during the two globals it takes you to get it off.
As of right now I would choose Feral Affinity or Guardian Affinity over Balance Affinity
You might be disappointed to learn you can cast zero healing spells in cat/bear.
Except you get frenzied regeneration in Guardian Affinity, which is super strong healing for sure.
Yeah but cat form gives you extra speed to get away and shapeshifting casts removing most snares and slow effects. And Guardian gives you frenzied regen and armor and stamina. It’s worked well for me in the past.
See then this would mess with my torg setup. I use rejuve to formswap after getting (lycaria’s bargain? - slows after dealing damage and healing). I think the form swap on resto heals is fine and should stay the way it is. I feel this would open the door to nerf moonkin form therefore cant get behind this.
And moonkin gives you 5 yds of extra range, more armor, and the ability to cast regrowth and lifebloom in form.
Specs can’t use most of the affinity spells without losing current spec form. Exceptions are typhoon, vortex as far as i know. so it is not only for moonkin. all druid specs are in same situation. For pve it would not effect others much, for pvp it would overpower some classes too much.
