I hope im not reading the new july 2nd update right but it looks like moongoose bite is going back to 5 stacka instead of three? Why? It was on the main reasons i was going to give surivial another go i hated having to go to 5 stacks.
Because the 3 stack infinite duration version is just a red raptor strike.
interestingly enough, the 5 stack version plays the exact same. I’d wager you’re overthinking the ability if it’s the sole reason you don’t play SV
It aint the sole reason but what u mean it pkays the same. We still get high uotime on max stacks.
Having more uptime makes things more fun. I always hated having max stacks but no energy and feeling like i wasted it or missing a few hits during that window. Just felt weird.
The current mongoose bite and the current raptor strike on dragonflight have the exact same priority—you just press them when you have nothing else to press so you don’t overcap on focus. if you’re spamming MB right now you’re playing a bit suboptimal which can make it feel a lot worse than it is meant to.
But infinite uptime is the same as no uptime. The maintenance version of MB that was on the beta last week was effectively “raptor strike does X% more damage” because the buff never fell off

You’ll still be hitting RS/MB to spend Focus as they are still important abilities to hit, in single target they’ll still be doing 15-20% of your single target damage
I am happy they went back on the MB/MF changes. I mean they were changed from a quite poor mechanic to a even worse (personal preference) one as a maintenance buff. I am also happy they clearly stated they are not happy with how it is currently and will figure out another way to change it so it’s good at the same time it works with the new playstyle. All around happy about these changes.
3 stack version was a lot better imo.
The ability actually doesn’t fit the class theme, imo. It needs to be a pet buff or do something useful like lower the cooldown on Disengage/Harpoon. Letting me disengage out of aoe more often would be sweet.
3 stack version was bland and copy and pasted from other classes on an ability that we just maintain/refresh. Mongoose bite is the core identity of survival hunter and what makes survival feel unique from every class.
