Mono cat dps is again at the bottom of the damage dealers
Due to cataclysm changes for all class buffs , in the current version of the game , there is no reason to invite a mono cat feral Druid in an optimized raid.
Most feral Druids are going back to the “bearweaving” meta which is quite frankly just bad class mechanics.
No need to bring back the glyph of clearcasting , just make the class fun and optimized without having to “bearweave” for optimal damage.
There’s no reason to have a class be mandatory overly complex contradicting the way it’s meant to be played (not in bear form )
Maybe. I mean you could consider Feral to be a PVP and/or Tanking tree, and you’d have the exact same options as anyone who would prefer to play a PVP or Tanking spec of another class in a PVE DPS role.
As long as people are actively playing, and the spec remains relatively popular, then who knows if Blizzard will see it as requiring any changes. Though, I think that they had made changes during Wrath because they specifically did not like people bearweaving. If people are bearweaving now, perhaps we will see some changes!
If you check most Druids currently are bearweaving because they have to , to be competitive
Take a look at the Druid discord , they all recommend bearweaving because it’s the only way to remain competitive and even at that point is the 20th worst damage class
If they bring back glyph of clearcasting, we won’t see bearweaving and mono cat will actually be encouraged.
Make Glyph of Clearcasting the new feral classic meta for all expansions. The energy downtime will always be there otherwise. It clearly fixed the class during wrath.
Here are a few aspects that could be addressed to enhance Feral Druid damage:
Increase Bleed Damage: Since Feral Druids rely heavily on bleed effects like Rake and Rip, increasing the damage of these abilities would significantly boost their overall DPS. Buffing bleed damage by 15% (for example) for Feral DPS in Cataclysm Classic can have several significant impacts:
Increased Overall Damage Output: Bleeds like Rake and Rip are core components of a Feral Druid’s damage rotation. A 15% increase in bleed damage directly boosts overall DPS, making Feral Druids more competitive in raids and dungeons.
Better Energy Management: With higher bleed damage, Feral Druids can rely more on their bleeds for sustained damage, allowing them to manage their energy more efficiently. This can reduce the need for frequent Shreds or other energy-intensive abilities.
Improved Burst Phases: During burst phases, such as when using Berserk, the increased bleed damage can significantly amplify the overall burst potential. This is especially useful in phases where maximizing damage output quickly is crucial.
Enhanced Multi-Target Damage: In situations with multiple targets, spreading bleeds across several enemies becomes more effective. The increased bleed damage ensures that each target takes substantial damage over time, improving overall multi-target DPS.
Synergy with Talents and Glyphs: Talents like Blood in the Water, which refreshes Rip when Ferocious Bite is used on low-health targets, become even more potent with increased bleed damage. Glyphs that extend the duration of bleeds also benefit, as the increased damage is applied over a longer period.
Improve Energy Regeneration: Enhancing energy regeneration rates or reducing the energy cost of key abilities like Shred and Mangle could allow for more consistent and sustained damage output. Example: Bleeds that crit restore energy.
Buff Mastery: Mastery increases the damage of bleed effects. A direct buff to the Mastery stat would make Feral Druids’ bleeds even more potent. Example Scenario:
Current Mastery Level: Suppose your current mastery level increases your Bleed damage by 30%.
Buffed Mastery Level: After a buff, your mastery level now increases Bleed damage by 40%.Impact on Damage:
Rake: This ability applies a Bleed effect that deals damage over time. With the buffed mastery, each tick of Rake will deal 10% more damage than before.
Rip: Similar to Rake, Rip’s Bleed effect will also benefit from the increased mastery, resulting in higher overall damage.
Ferocious Bite: This finisher deals more damage based on the number of combo points used and the remaining duration of Rip on the target. With higher mastery, the damage from Ferocious Bite will be significantly higher, especially when Rip is active.Practical Example:
Before Buff: Rake deals 1000 damage per tick.
After Buff: Rake deals 1100 damage per tick (10% increase). In a typical rotation, these increases can add up quickly, leading to a substantial boost in overall DPS. This is particularly noticeable in longer fights where Bleed effects have more time to tick and accumulate damage. By focusing on mastery, Feral Druids can maximize their sustained damage output, making them more effective in both single-target and multi-target scenarios.
Enhance Cooldowns: Reducing the cooldowns of powerful abilities like Berserk or increasing their effectiveness could provide a substantial DPS boost during critical moments. Enhancing the cooldowns (CDs) can significantly boost the overall damage output. Here are a few key ways this can happen:
Increased Burst Damage: Enhancing CDs like Tiger’s Fury and Berserk can lead to higher burst damage during critical moments. This is particularly useful in both PvE and PvP scenarios where maximizing damage in a short window can be crucial.
Better Energy Management: Improved CDs can help with energy regeneration. For instance, Tiger’s Fury not only increases damage but also instantly restores energy, allowing for more frequent use of high-damage abilities.
Synergy with Other Abilities: Enhanced CDs can create better synergy with other abilities and talents. For example, combining Berserk with Bloodtalons can amplify the damage of your finishing moves, leading to a more efficient and powerful rotation.
Cooldown Reduction Effects: If enhancements include cooldown reduction, they allow Feral Druids to use their powerful abilities more often, maintaining higher sustained damage over longer fights.
Adaptability in Different Scenarios: Enhanced CDs can make Feral Druids more adaptable in various encounters, whether it’s dealing with multiple adds in a raid or focusing down a single target in a dungeon.
Overall, these enhancements can make Feral Druids more competitive and versatile, improving their performance across different types of content.
No reason to invite lots of specs to an optimized raid. Good thing most raids are not optimized raids and there’s currently lots of people raiding as cat.
Feral DPS ranks 16th out of 22 in terms of play rate, according to logs, and is also ranked 20th out of 22 for overall damage. It is surprising to note that at the 99th percentile, Blood DKs actually surpass Feral DPS in total damage output, raising questions about balance.
His point is the community is forced to not invite a mono cat feral druid in most case scenarios
If you play feral druid and don’t intend to beartank or bearweave, most guilds won’t allow you to play if their goal is to complete the raid efficiently vs the average guild for the realm, if this isn’t important to you then i understand that, then you should understand where these players are coming from the class is 1000% punished and that is why they have this point of view which affects a different demographic from your super casual dad guild
Sure, you can get invited at the end of the phase when everyone is geared or join a GDKP if gold is king
In it’s current form, the game is forcing a mono cat feral druid that wants to clear raids fairly competitive to either:
Pick a different class if your goal is to do damage
Pick a different spec
Force you to tank to get invites
Force to pay gold to get an invite
Bearweave to do slightly more damage even tho blizzard admitted already they hate the idea of bearweaving and its not how they originally intended classic feral mono cat to feel or play as a damage class.
Quit the game
It’s not surprising, you just don’t understand how the game works.
Blood DK have an attack called Heart Strike, it cleaves, most bosses in this tier are actively very favorable to cleave. Feral DPS can’t cleave for ****.
Percentile 99 is the degen players that play full haste BDK with double DPS trinket and DPS weapon rune with far less survivability then a standard BDK.
So of course BDK beats out Feral on some cleave fights when they get their AP doubled by vengeance with full DPS gear to boot.
To be fair, if there were people playing Blood as a DPS (UH presence, not tanking anything) they would probably be beating Feral on lots of these fights too. I play Blood as a DPS and I’ve done the same amount on Halfus as the top Feral DPS in the world and my kill was a lot slower and the vast majority of my damage was ST there. Get me in one of those Halfus parse kills and I think I could do like 130k+
Kill times and strats make such a huge difference. My 27k Atramedes could have probably been a 45k Atramedes in a speed kill. Our Al’akir kill this week was nearly 9 minutes long and I probably would have done around 33k had it been a good kill but ended at 29,200 cause it was just me and the tank left alive. Top Feral on that fight is at 35k.
How do you know? We disagreed on one thing (Feral DPS). I also mostly disagreed because there’s no reason to focus solely on buffing Feral DPS while leaving other specs low because you said those were “PvP” specs while Feral is absolutely dominating in PvP. I disagree with the notion of “PvE” and “PvP” specs, especially in Cata. Another part of why I was arguing with you is because the Classic team is an absolute disgrace and can’t get anything right. They would mess something up if they tried to balance the lower end of the DPS spectrum, guaranteed.

I wouldnt call it arguing i perfer to call it a debate. We both have opposing views which we clearly stated in a failry respectiful manor. While i do agree on some points you have said there are others i dont.
It seems that the development team is underperforming, which might explain why Blizzard let go of a significant portion of their staff. I’m also concerned that the remaining team members, who may be the best of the lot, are not meeting expectations. What does this mean for the future?
But maybe we can agree on this “Blizz should fix feral so that clear casting works as intended according to the tooltip” Because as it stands the tooltip reads
"Your damage and healing spells have a small chance to cause you to enter a Clearcasting state. The Clearcasting state reduces the Mana, Rage or Energy cost of your next cast-time damaging or healing spell or offensive feral ability by 100%.
If specialized as a Feral Druid, Omen of Clarity will also have a chance to occur from your auto-attacks."
But only procs on auto attacks not anything else!!!
