Walking on Water is like the most monk/chi/zen/kung fu master/jackie chan thing you can think of, it blows my mind that monks could never walk on water before. In addition, a a large part of the monks identity is being highly mobile, but by lacking a fall breaking ability most other classes can run away from them easily in pvp, so i think monk should have both a Waterwalk and a Fallbreak.
Plus, Demon Hunters stole Monks mobility identity and do it better anyway so i think Monk should get something to compensate.
For water walking, what if monks could just cross water passively? Again, so much of their identity was stolen by DH that i think they deserve something unique to compensate. If thatâs too strong though, what if they drained Energy every second while walking on water? Or, what if Monks had an ability that cost 1 chi and gave them waterwalking for 10 seconds with no cooldown or gcd?
As for Fallbreaking, i think it would be super cool and unique if using Flying Serpent Kick in midair would instead propel you towards the ground like a missle, of course nullifying fall damage, as it already doesnât work when used midair. They could also make the Rushing Jade Wind talent give slow fall, making it a more appealing talent choice, or maybe just give monk a brand new ability to break falls.
we used to have a glyph that made it so roll/chi torpedo would travel across the surface of water as if it were solid ground which i think was their attempt at giving us this fantasy
i think only flying serpent kick still has this functionality though. it would be really cool if monk had a passive that gave them waterwalking as long as they met or exceeded a certain movement speed breakpoint
as for breaking fall damage, i like the serpent kick idea, but that spell doesnt exist on mistweaver or brewmaster. maybe instead just change roll so that if you are in the animation and also not on the ground, you remain ârollingâ until you land, at which point you roll again and negate fall damage?
I want a ârunning wildâ type ability for monks where they just run around at mount speed with that sprinting animation they get from tigerâs lust.
I get that walking on water is often something shown in movies centered around a more mystical version of the martial arts, but there are already classes in the game who appropriate that sort of behavior with water (rogues during stealth, shamans in general, etc).
However, I could see a version of roll (granted perhaps from one of the existing talents) where you are able to water walk for a brief period of time after using roll (easily incorporated into the existing chi torpedo talent). I could also see ârollingâ mid-air as a way to reduce your fall damage once you hit the ground (or perhaps even negating fall damage if you hit the ground mid-roll⌠a feature that could also be built into one of the existing roll talents).
Besides, thereâs a version of âmonkâ that WoW is trying to strike a balance with. Are the WoW monks supposed to feel like a DragonBallZ character? No. Are they supposed to feel like a more limited, but still mystical, martial artist? Thereâs a balance with the âfeelâ of the monkâs mobility in relation to other class choices. The transcendence swap is an excellent form of mobility unique to the class that feels appropriate for it in relation to other WoW classes.
I think Blizzard is doing a pretty good job with the âfeelâ of monk mobility⌠but a part of me still REALLY wants the original version of chi torpedo back. That was so fun.
If youâre a REAL monk (i.e. pandaren, not one of these copying posers) you CAN break falls, with your exceptional booty.
Walking on water, though? Kind of a shaman/DK niche. I mean, shamans have been the jesus class since vanilla with self revives and waterwalking. Thereâs a reason jesusmode was a meme.
Monks have quite a bit of mobility already with roll/chi torpedo, and thereâs not many situations where waterwalking would improve that much. If I was going to add any kind of mobility to monks, itâd be to change flying dragon kick into a âteleport-behind-your-enemyâ style attack, because FDK is so weird to use right now I hate it.
Monks not having any sort of fall protection is one of the biggest complaints I have about it when playing in the open world. The most agile class that can control wind has no fall protection, but demon hunter, druid, hunter, mage, paladin, priest, warrior, etc do?
Sort of ruins the spec identity when a behemoth warrior can avoid fall damage and a WINDWALKER MONK canât.
Hereâs an idea: monks can walk on water only if they are unmounted and moving at running speed or rolling (or using Flying Serpent Kick). If they RP walk or stop moving, they sink into the water and cannot water run again until they reach a solid surface.
For falling: monks do not take falling damage if they are within X yards from a vertical surface (walls, cliffs, etc.) while falling (where X is dependent on their level). At level 50 or higher, they take no falling damage regardless of proximity to vertical surfaces.
Druids were renowned for their mobility above all others. To the point that druids just didnât die in world pvp because they werenât worth chasing.
You wanna talk about stealing the mobility niche youâll need to go a bit further back!
