Monk tank's Tiger Palm replacement talent Press the Advantage not affected by Tiger Palm modifiers

  • Counterstrike: +100% Tiger Palm after dodging
  • Face Palm: +200% Tiger Palm dmg (50% chance on use)
  • Blackout Combo: +100% Tiger Palm dmg right after Blackout Kick
  • Eye of the Tiger: dot applied by Tiger Palm to only one target
  • Alpha Tiger (pvp talent): +20% haste for 8 seconds after using Tiger Palm on a target (30s cd)

not sure why the modifiers wouldn’t affect Tiger Palm’s replacement talent (a lot of other specs modify talents that were replaced)

devs, explain why you added this new replacement talent to Tiger Palm?

Is there any data that supports this new talent over the other one?

Well if it doesn’t, then it should be explicit in the wording so people will know not to be trapped into tiger palm talents lol.

The wording explicitly says it triggers tiger palm effects so if it doesn’t it’s probably a bug.

  • Chi Surge effectiveness reduced when triggered by Press the Advantage.

why is it implying that Chi Surge can be activated in another way when Press the Advantage is most likely the only ability that can? the explanations and purpose of Press the Advantage is so confusing other than potentially increased single target dmg on bosses

I’d guess that’s to balance it against the version when you use Weapons of Order instead

Well that is good news. That probably means we’ll be getting a huge damage buff.

Press the Advantage says it benefits from Tiger Palm effects at reduced effectiveness. Which, from testing seems to be half. So, Face Palm will not be +200% it will be +100%.

And because someone asked, Weapons of Order can do Chi Surge.

It’s all right there, it’s not worded well but it is there.

So far i have only ever seen the Tiger Palm procs occur when you burn the 10 stack buff for the bonus attack. Tried with a bunch of mobs and dummies and could never get Tiger Palm to proc on ANY of the “auto attacks” that supposedly give the Tiger Palm Replacement.

It’s very misleading if this is how it is intended to be. That means that you have to get 10 auto attacks before you get get any proc from Tiger Palm buff/talents.

Yeah, that’s how the talent works. It’s not misleading at all.

“Upon reaching 10 stacks, your next cast of Rising Sun Kick or Keg Smash consumes all stacks to strike again at 100% effectiveness. This bonus attack can trigger effects on behalf of Tiger Palm.”

What’s not to understand?

the misleading part is the Chi Surge (+Press the Advantage). if u have a tank monk u’d easily see the tooltip’s stated dmg is bugged (tooltip theoretical 400k dmg, actual 40k). and the 10.1.5 patch note explains it with this:

  • Chi Surge effectiveness reduced when triggered by Press the Advantage.

also why did the patch note have to specify this ability when Press the Advantage is obviously the only thing that activates the 400k/40k Chi Surge (not the 60-70k surge from Weapons of Order). they could’ve done a better way to implement this. this talent also seems kinda useless if u’re going for pure single target mitigation. aoe it’s also useless because Spinning Crane Kick prevents u from auto attacking i think

I do have a Brewmaster Monk and the tooltip for Chi Surge says 30k.

i see it too now, guess they hotfixed it

That’s how it works. It triggers the tiger palm amps on your bonus attack at 10 stacks. With everything active you can deliver a comically large RSK.

tested it and the Blackout Combo buff goes away after the double hit but it doesn’t proc the pvp talent/buff Alpha Tiger on the double hit sadge

Blackout combo doesn’t double dip for barrel either because the first one consumes the buff before the bonus slam. It does allow for atom bomb RSKs though.

“Chi Surge” and “Call to Arms” does not proc on my monk with “Press the Advantage”. I auto attacked a dummy for over 5 minutes and I only observed “Press the Advantage” and “Resonant Fist” procs. Anyone else observing this issue?

You’d proc it at 10 stacks with Keg Smash or Rising Sun Kick
