Monk tank need a buff on dmg

Keg smash might as well heal the enemies for all the good it does

From the data i’ve seen, all of the tanks are about even in most scenarios…except warriors

Lol. Monk tanks do more dmg than half the others. Kegsmash hits pretty hard

Monks do more dmg than dks.

Yes, dk is lowest atm.

But they’re relatively close.

This is true.

Hopefully warriors will be brought in line. With the recent changes.

With the buffs to DH tanks coming soon, I expect they’re going to be the new DPS leaders. But Monk still has enough utility to make the loss in DPS worth it. The only thing I wish they would fix with Monks is their self sustain. Monks used to have so much control over their lives. Having a tank that has almost 0 sustain without a healer, for general PvE purposes, is just weird.

Don’t you think they’d have to mess with our mitigation if they gave us more self sustain? Because right now for Mythic+ and raids we’re in a very good spot.

For everything else in PvE I never wish I had more self sustain, I can solo most rares from warfronts. Some bosses in Darkshore will give me some trouble if I try to solo them but that’s not how that content is supposed to be played and I also don’t think that’s the kinda content classes should be balanced around.

Some people claim that Brewmaster will make healers babysit them more in key as opposed to other tanks, but as I main healer myself I’d rather heal a BrM over DK or DH any day, because when things get tense I like the confidence tanks like BrM giving due to their insane mitigation capability rather than have DHs and DKs spiking from 10% HP and back all the time.

Not at all. That is why Azerite Traits exist. You literally give people a choice between one or the other and as long as there is not a huge disparity between the two they’ll see use and gain popularity if thats what players want in the content. I don’t want to go down the rabbit hole on azerite trait balance but you have fit to burst, bonded souls, etc. It’s just a matter of them being tuned well and being beneficial.

There is zero to touch stagger / isb / pb or any other tank defensive imo.

Unfortunately that’s the entire problem with azerite traits. Unless it’s one of the “big two” (ToN/SnC, though ToN is the superior trait most of the time), there’s absolutely zero reason to pursue specific traits beyond your first copy of BB or EF. That ultimately isn’t down to trait balance, but rather because stagger is just that strong. Fit to Burst is worthless, and Staggering Strikes is only useful in scenarios where you have extended periods where you aren’t being healed (eg. no healer or a healing received debuff). When a tank’s best traits are focused on avoiding damage rather than mitigating it, there’s an issue with their mitigation model. Granted, avoidance is a form of mitigation, but Blizzard also stated in Legion they wanted to get away from avoidance/RNG based tanking.

Between a post I made here earlier this year and a more recent post bringing it up in the class development forum, it should be no surprise that I bear little love for stagger when it’s this powerful. From a balance perspective, it’s “fine” because we don’t really get stronger defensively during a tier as we get more gear because of scaling. On the other hand, stagger also allows so much absurd cheese that it forces the occasional hotfix (see: Cabal’s mythic hotfix) or causes Blizzard to either one shot other tanks (either through raw damage or by making tank busters magic-based) to make brewmasters feel threatened or just admit defeat knowing brewmasters won’t feel a thing. In an expansion where tanks lost much of their magic mitigation already, that’s a slippery slope to go down and isn’t healthy encounter (or class) design.

tl;dr: Stagger is a cheat code that essentially breaks tanking far worse than prot’s Avatar DPS ever could.

I can solo all darkshore bosses as ww

Do you solo even the biggest bosses like Soggoth, Clyclarus and Conflagrus?

@Talbby Azerite traits are way too underpowered to swing a tank from heavy mitigation to self sustain, not even legendaries and artifact weapons could do that in Legion. When I pointed out that Blizzard “would have to mess with our mitigation if they gave us more selfsustain” I was just trying to imply that our lack of self sustain is made up by other things we can do.

Every single one

This. I’ve never seen it so well put. Honestly, this is where I think the community will split in terms of opinion. I’m personally all-in for stagger being this obscenely powerful in terms of group content, but there’s basically zero trade offs being made when discussing tanks in M+. DK has grip, Brez, mass grip, AMS (ignores some mechanics at lower levels), and Purg (even though I don’t think I’ve seen a BDK take it.) Monk has ring, leg sweep, para. Prot warrior has insane dps, and intervene. Prot pally has multiple types of immunities. DH’s are kinda weak but they have their mass grip, leaps, meta, the meta cheat death talent, etc.

Why take a monk when a DK self-heal’s for 50% of their needed healing (or more) or when Prot war does like… 6x the monk’s dps, or a prot pally’s insane level of utility for cheesing mechanics?

With the upcoming DH buffs I doubt you’re going to see that many DK’s anymore. DH can force casters into the pack just like a DK, on half the cooldown, has a huge root, insane mobility, and more healing than a DK. I’m expecting to move my M+11 solo up to M+15, and it only takes 6-8 hours to clear :stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting. Do you use pvp talents? I haven’t had warmode on all the time this xpac so I might have tried it without them.

Yeah I only play with WM on

As a healer main, I like to choose monks over most other tanks because I find them easy to heal and they have good utility.

Oh I’m all with you, but I can’t deny how useful mass grip is during Reaping, or how Prot warrior’s AoE dps just shreds anything.

But rop

Why not bring the others up?
