No, but seriously. Ki has been described as a form of “Spirit”, which is often described as the “5th Element”.
Spirit isn’t exactly Life, but it’s close. Spirit emboldens life, enriching its growth. It can also sooth Elementals, causing them to be less chaotic.
Every living thing has Spirit within it. Even Forsaken have Spirit.
Monks draw upon their internal Spirit to manifest their powers.

so spirit increases monk physical power and also provides nature lightning and touch of death which i deduce is just a strong blow
only monks can manifest spirit powers? i never saw anything about it
I don’t know if it increases their physical power, but anything they do that is “inhuman” is because of Spirit.
Something like Blackout Kick and Touch of Death might just be their martial skill, no magic involved.
But stuff like Effuse, feats like running on water, that would be stuff done with Spirit.
Spirit lives in everyone, so anyone could feasibly manifest Spirit.
But Monks are the only class that train to do it.
Shamans also utilize Spirit, though in a different method to Monks.

Pretty much what Heckbrew said, Chi (ki) which is the Pandaren word for spirit. Would kind of be labeled under Life on the cosmic chart. While its considered an element itself, all elements and people have spirit, its the energy from ones soul, kind of like anima. Anima is more so the manifestation of ones experiences in life while Chi is more like the manifestation of power.

While Chi makes Monks stronger and is there primary power source, anyone would be able to tap into this. Monks are just trained in it, think of Star Wars: some people can use the force and not be a Jedi but all Jedi are trained to do so.

It’s amusing that people think that the developers pay any attention to that power chart after watching nearly everything else that’s been printed get retconned to oblivion.
The only relevant sources of power are Fire, Frost, Arcane, Nature, Holy, and Shadow. Otherwise, it’s Physical.
Those are the powers referred to by game mechanics.
the power is called “Chi” and it’s Spirit, one of the primal elements. Monk is bascially a shaman that only uses one element.

Spirit/Chi is the Elemental Spirit of Life/Wilds which is no more the Cosmic Force of Life than Revendreth’s Shadow Magic is the Cosmic Force of Shadow(Revendreth’s Shadow Magic is Death Magic by the way).
Spirit is in everything! Even Anima has Spirit inside it with the Kyrian Healers using Life Infusion as a Spell and Etherwyrms of Bastion use Siphon Spirit to steal the Players’ Anima of the Bastion variety.
Also, there’s the assorted brews, so there may be some alchemical aspects.
