Monk question

ive been watching videos on fistweaver monk it looks alot of fun i solo play alot or just play islands of expidition or smaller raids or dungeons with my husband … i saw a video of a guy playing fistweaver doing good dmg and alot of healing soloing rares and what not … are they still pretty good to do all that with ? are they hard to learn ? any advice would be great … i used to play bm monk but wanted to try something diffrent

thanx

Try it out. Monk is the most fun spec to play in open world.

I use a fistweaver build when I’m doing open world stuff. It’s more efficient if you don’t want to change specs. There is a little bit of a learning curve to it but it isn’t too bad.

i just hit lvl 16 on my gnome monk kinda nervous about getting the hang of it but going to try my best to learn seems fun so far

Do not be nervous, it’s a fun spec to play and if you find that you don’t particularly like fistweaving or it’s giving you trouble you can always try the more caster oriented builds. I’m really enjoying the fact that monk has 2 distinct healing builds that are both viable in end game content.

Till you have access to a larger part of the talent tree just do your best with the basics:

-Spreading Ren Mists/Keeping it up on the tank

-Soo-Env-viv combos for big ST healing on someone

-Ren Mist + vivify cleave/spread healing through invigorating mists talent

-Essence Font for double mastery procs and using it for burst w/ vivify spam. You can press Essence Font and quickly cancel it in m+ after the first set of hots go out. The goal (in m+) is to get the HoT on people to abuse the double mastery procs for a short time.

-Using the different Thunder Focus Tea effects

-Using Revival and your Celestial as cooldowns ( I recommend Yu’Lon at first till you either get more talent points to fully flesh out the fistweaver/fey line stuff if that is your goal, but both are pretty great as the goal is the spread the breath effect and also env mists )

-Life Cocoon - play around with it’s talents, just make sure you are using it.

-Prio Haste gear while lvling, the class plays and feels better once you get 20-30+ haste and our toolkit pumps already. Just be mindful of mana consumption. ( not an issue once you get tier items but be TP/BoK-ing to get mana back from the talents Teachings of the Monastery + Spirit Of the Crane )

-Getting used to being in melee can be a bit daunting at first. Ideally you dont want to be in front of the adds/boss where the tank is, or will be. This will prevent cone attacks from hitting you. You can quickly roll out of melee and back into it if needed too. Practice this and always be mindful of what is behind you. Practice using your Transcendence Transfer/Teleport too.

-If you have Jade Serpent Statue make sure you are plopping it down at least in raid and dungeon boss rooms. Meh talent/ability at this point on it’s own but it IS free and DOES benefit from the bonus healing from Env Mist on people you need to SOO-Env-viv. Dont feel like you need to put a talent point into Jade statue if you are looking to make a different build. I imagine even the 3% DR talent can outshine JSS under certain circumstances, though youd have to get someone to do math for this. Im currently debating moving the JSS point to the 3% dr point, or elsewhere. If for any reason you have Unison talented you should ALWAYS be putting down JSS as it benefits from unison. ( unison is very meh and should probably be moved to the class tree at this point as it competes with much stronger combos/talents and we only have 10 pts for tier 3 talents )

Other Stuff:
-Practice using defensives for big hits and tigers lust to remove slow effects from players. Practice using Diffuse Magic to clear magic effects from yourself ( serves as a second dispel if you get a bad magic effect :3 )

-Using Ring of peace and Tiger Tail Sweep for controlling enemies and keeping them busy. Ring of Peace can be pretty OP if you use it right.

-Make sure you are in melee so you can get the most out of your healing aura and avoidance aura talents.

-Use Spear Hand Strike for interrupting key mechanics so you dont need to heal a ton of avoidable damage.

-Practice using tigers punch, blackout kick, and rising sun kick. When talented BoK will give mana back and RSK will get more renewing mists going, which makes vivify cleave healing easier/better/stronger.

-If Zen Pulse is interesting to you pick it up and mess around with it, it brings more damage and a ST nuke heal on the tank when they group up mobs/etc.

-Chi Burst and Chi Wave are depressingly undertuned. Dont feel forced to press these. Chi Burst is apparently good for resetting Fey Line though if needed and you enjoy/chose those talents.

**Once you get to the last tier of talents you start to build your tree more. We ARE limited to 10 picks though so you’ll have to play around to see what works for you. **

The 3rd Tier talents:

Clouded Focus and Ancient Teachings: I was using Ancient Teachings in raids as it feels better in larger group settings but with our tier set for season 2 Clouded Focus is pulling ahead in all content I think, though it does have a higher skill ceiling due to needing to ramp. Clouded focus is great in m+ either way, brings tons of healing. 1 pt. Either way play around with both to get a feeling for the interactions with the toolkit.

Secret Infusion and Invoker’s Delight are very strong for the buffs they bring. Very recommended and only cost 3 points to get them all. Secret infusion and Invoker’s bonus haste allows our celestial to be an extremely potent combo/cooldown, especially if you get a call to dominance class trinket. You can even use it to pump some damage. Proc a Sheilun’s Gift Buff before and it’s a significant buff to either healing to damage. Lots of interactions and ways to abuse the stats.

Sheilun’s Gift is an immensely powerful group heal tool. ( dont need to use it at full stacks, you can use it earlier if you need to ) The buffs that the first talent “Shaohow’s Lessons” bring can be abused in various ways to buff healing and also damage. The talent that makes it cast faster and hit 5 people is very nice. It’s prettty much a 5 man lay on hands at full stacks. Combined with Secret Infusion you can get a ton of damage/healing. The talent that generates more mists faster is also really good. You get a lot for 3 points again here, esp for burst m+.

Resplendent Mists/The Tea talents were what I used before. TFT heavy and mastery heavy type build. It’s honestly not as fun as Secret Infusion/Invoker’s stat buffs and interactions though so I swapped. These are underperforming talents at this point compared to the rest, though that doesn’t mean you’ll be useless if you take them. They are pretty easy to grasp and very beginner friendly imo as they support TFT usage and also can buff mastery procs.

-Tears of the Morning and Rising mIsts - I still run Tears in m+ for the stronger cleave healing as I dont have too many issues with Ren Mist coverage/uptime in m+. However I run Rising mists in raids as the goal there is to extend HoT’s ( mostly Ren Mist and Essence font ) and create larger vivify burst windows/ramps by having more RenMists up at once. Rising Mist tends to be better in larger groups too. Again, play around with both. I think most people just keep Rising Mist now a days, some of us run tears in m+ still.

Faeline Talents - Look up a guide I dont enjoy these talents and dont run them. There are various guides and streamers that should be easy to find.

These articles from Peak are very good reads for basic info. Id avoid the actual discord though.
