Hey all!
I’m having trouble deciding on which class to roll for my Gnome alt. 
I’m mainly interested in the more casual side of things… questing, random BGs, low level mythics, some LFR/normal raiding. Not min-maxing at all and mainly play solo. Some achievement hunting.
I enjoy the WW/MW specs, for sure, and healing is fun for me. Plus queues are shorter.
For hunter, I do like the three DPS specs aspect - and I like the idea of a range character.
Totally torn! Your thoughts?
Monk will give you the ability to play all 3 specs in one class. All 3 specs are well balanced (though BrM is a challenging spec to learn, but also one of the most rewarding in end game content). Since you’ve expressed interest in WW/MW, you won’t be disappointed.
I’ve always been divided about the Hunter. In expansions past, Hunter dps rankings always yo-yo-ed between being one of the best, being meh, and then being the worst, only to go back. Now that BM has been buffed, we’ll see how well they perform. Unfortunately the stigma that accompanied bad hunters still persists till this day and it’s because of that, that I haven’t fully committed to one. Which is too bad because IMO, the Hunter would be the perfect class to play in case you wanted to be a raid leader, aside from Mage, Shadow Priest, Boomkin, Shaman, & Warlock. The only unfortunate reality of the Hunter is that you’re a DPS class pure and simple.
hunter is pretty easy to lvl and has ranged but ww monk does alot more dps then any hunter spec.
A couple of things which come to mind. A hunter has a shared weapon among two of its specs. Especially for an alt, weapons can be a pain to get upgrades on and maintaining a MW spellpower weapon and dual wielding WW weapons can be a bit painful. If you want to farm mogs in old raids, hunter has a lot more appearances to choose from (although hunter appearances are not always super popular).
I have found monk cleave damage to be very handy, cooldowns to be useful in surviving while questing and am really enjoying Mistweaver this expansion so I have 3 120 monks and a still level 110 hunter.
For casual play it doesn’t matter in the slightest.
Whichever makes you happier, they’re both very capable.
Obviously, I prefer monk, but its up to you.
