Hi everyone,
Having a tough time deciding on which is better for me in the long run…
I want a character that I can focus on rather than continuously making alts and not getting anywhere…
Last season I made an Ele Shaman which was fun, but then I realised I actually like to tank as well.
I made a Warrior but didn’t like that I couldn’t support my team in dungeons with heals etc… tried Pally but the light flavour isn’t my thing…
I do like WW Monks, but then worry I will miss ranged dps of Balance Druids… and i’m not sure how I feel about feral as I didn’t really enjoy my rogue all that much.
I just tried Resto and found it fun as I could dps at the same time easily.
I like that Guardian feels a bit more relaxing than Brewmaster and there is a little bit of self healing (I like to solo a bit and the lack of self heals of Brew worries me)
But I know Brewmaster tanks are very good… but in M+ up to 15 does it really matter which I choose?
So primarily I will be doing M+ (any role) and RBGs (dps). I never Arena or raid higher than LFR as I can’t commit to guild raid times.
I do like that as Monk I can see my tmog all the time and worry that as Druid I will hardly see it… and that mounts won’t be as useful as I would just use Travel Form.
I would invest time into unlocking the artifact appearances for druid forms though.
What do you think?
It sounds like you would prefer to play druid to me. Being able to play all roles including range and melee dps is a nice perk of playing a Druid. The tmog thing is definitely true for me unless I decide I want to play resto though. I can’t really speak on the M+ situation as I haven’t run a key this season, nor run a key that high in previous seasons. I guess you have to figure out if you’re fine with playing melee only. If so monk is a nice choice, but if you will miss range druid it is.

Yeah I think maybe Druid is probably better for me…
Atleast like you said, when resto I would see my tmog.
Choose Druid. one spec is meta, the others are all capable.
As far as the tmog thing, I like seeing my toon in kitty form and bear form. Troll druids look so awesome with their colors and mowhawks while in animal forms.

I might suggest you take Healing Elixir while you’re out solo. It’s actually not a bad setup over Bob and Weave as it acts like an instant Frenzied Regeneration heal.
Most likely not. In fact, Brewmaster and Guardian are relatively equally used in keystones between 10 and 14. Once you hit 15 and up, you’ll start to see that Brewmaster pulls ahead of Guardian substantially, which is to be expected.
Either class will work but that doesn’t mean they’ll both be equally favored all due to community perception about the role/spec you’re playing. For example, I’d wager that:
- Balance/WW will pull ahead of Feral for invites.
- Restoration will pull ahead of Mistweaver for invites.
- Brewmaster will pull ahead of Guardian for invites.
Unfortunately Blizzard hasn’t done enough to change a lot of these stigmas and perception that the community has about these specs, even if they’re actually performing decently well (compared to prior to 8.2) with the new added systems.
If you’re looking for M+ and RBGs I would definitely go Druid. Balance in RBGs is top tier, and all Druid specs are 100% capable of doing M+15.
You said one thing that I believe is key. You like the “laid back” style of Guardian. Brewmaster is absolutely hectic in high content. Keeping up your ironskin is easy, purifying is easy, but managing all your resources to keep using those abilities, while also worrying about cooldowns, positioning, and dealing with ranged mobs, gets challenging in a hurry.
The same can be said for Feral. The fact that you didn’t like Rogue doesn’t worry me. I despise Rogue gameplay, but have … 16? Druids. Half of those have been Feral since TBC. The only downside to Feral right now, as others have said, is the stigma that they’re bad. We could definitely use some help in the group utility category, but so could other classes. Imo, if we were given back raid leader of the pack, or tranquility, we would be mandatory for every raid. Which seems like Blizzard’s goal for 9.0. Bring back class identity, and class buffs. Similar to what they already gave Monks.
Druid is an outstanding and fun class overall. I have mained tank and heals so far this xpac, and felt strong and effective in both for instanced content. I use feral or boomie for open world content depending on what I’m doing.
Travel Form is just amazing for open world content. Yeah it sort of sucks getting a cool mount as a Druid knowing you can just instantly fly instead, but if it matters that much you could just use the mount anyway.
You’d absolutely want to unlock legion Druid skins, as the default bear forms are bad. Like Hunter Pet or wild bear NPC bad.
As a Druid, I have enough variety in play that I don’t even feel the need to have an alt. I have an alchemy bot alt, but I don’t ever actually play him. I get full enjoyment from my Druid in all forms of content and wish I had mained this class before BFA.

I love my druid so much that I decided this would be my main going forward unless they all of a sudden make every druid spec unviable (unlikely).
I can’t recommend druid enough. I feel strong as a tank, strong heals, feral is a great soloing spec (if things get dicey I can just go bear), and boomy is amazing raid dps. It’s the total package AND has ridiculously good QoL perks like instant flight form and stealth in all specs.
I love my druid.

I rolled a Druid for bfa hoping blizzard couldnt wreck 4 specs but they surprised me and wrecked 3 of 4.
Resto been top tier all of BfA… Moonkin was used extensively in the most recent world first race (and is always coveted in raiding), guardian is fine for 99% of the player base, and feral is actually pretty good if you can get past the idiotic stigma from the player base. Yeah, so wrecked…

Agreed. All 4 Druid specs are end game capable in every aspect of WoW if you can get past the superiority complex everyone has when it comes to other classes vs Druid.

Im partial to Balance and Feral. Balance is one of my absolute favorite casting classes. Feral is a bit of an odd playstyle but if you get good at the timing you can do huge damage.

It looks like your core PvE content is 5-mans, so I’ll talk about M+. I main a druid and alt a monk.
This season, Guardian druid is finally viable and comparable to other tanks. They upped our survival 20%+ in 8.2.
- Both can dispel (new for guardian in 8.2)
- Neither throws useful group heals while in combat (that is just Paladin). Druid can pop some wild growths btw pulls on bursting weeks (this week).
- Self heals are minor for both. Monk can spec healing elixir for solo content healing (about half as strong as druid).
- Both can knock mobs around via typhoon vs ring of peace.
- Monk has a better sprint/mobility.
- Guardian is less hectic to tank.
- M+ pugs will take any tank in 10-15 b/c it is a hard role to fill.
Dps:
- M+ is all about double (or triple) melee this xpac b/c of interrupts.
- Feral is perfectly good melee, but groups will prefer WW for the aoe stun, cc, and 5% physical dmg debuff.
- Moonkin is popular in M+ mostly b/c a lot of raiders are moonkin. They are okay dps in M+, but are mostly useful for treants to taunt off the tanks to relieve pressure (especially this week with necrotic)
- If you liked Ele, you will like Moonkin.
- WW is the #5 dps spec b/c of their utilities (btw Ele and Moonkin).
- WW is pretty easy to play and not really like rogue or feral.
Healing:
- Resto druid is 50% of the high end healers.
- It is fun to catweave while healing when people don’t screw up.
- Monk has some nice burst healing and in dungeons can do some decent dps.
- Monk Conflict and Strife (pvp essence) looks interesting to bring back fistweaving.
- Monk also tends to have more mana issues (but haven’t tried since essences were added)
- M+ pugs will take any healer b/c the role is hard to fill.
I main a druid (moonkin for raid, guardian for M+ b/c guild needs dungeon tanks). My highest timed is 15 ML, mostly b/c of the dps/healers in guild and less about my ability to take a hit or keep aggro (season 2 and season 1 issues respectively). My primary alt is a monk.

Thanks for such a detailed reply and you’re right! I will primarily focus on 5-man content.
I like to hear that pugs will just take any healer or tank xD
The main reason I decided to change mains as well was because for pugging M+ as an ele shaman… sure I got invites but I hated how long we would wait for a tank or healer that I decided I would rather just be either so I can get more M+ dungeon time…

Glyph of the Sentinel is even better! My troll is a snow white owl!!!
Troll druids are gorgeous, and they aren’t super popular out in the open world either. I’ve been doing feral and having a blast. I like monk but when I play one I just feel like a weaker Demon Hunter. Monks are really fun in the open world, but I got tired of running away all the time.
