Monk in 10.1

i’m posting this because i love the idea of the monk, and i think its time for a new coat of paint.

Design-
skyreach is a blessing for melee. the 10yard charge helps SO much with positioning. please make it a glyph and not a talent. all the specs would benefit from this skill. seriously why do all other melee have so many ways to teleport directly on top of the target and monks have to waddle up to the them?

Style-
first off all the monk abilities could use some partial effects up dates. Faeline stomp is the only new and cool skill monks have gotten in some time. bring back flashy skills like spinning fire blossom and the land mine version Path of Blossoms. OMG make the same visual changes of the giant white Healing Spheres to the Brewmasters bubble healing.
“Whirling dragon punch” should be a base windwalker ability and have a talent to also add a flaming DoT like Ken Masters Shōryūken or Electric damage like Ryu Hoshi. Spinning crane kick needs a talent to pull nearby enemies to its center. Zen Flight should be as fast a druid flight forms and there should be a glyph to make you stand on the cloud like Goku rather then sitting if you choose.

Defenses-
Fortifying Brew- 6 min is far far to long for fortifying brew to be on cooldown.
Fist of Fury -Turbo Fist PvP talent- should be added to fist of fury as a base mechanic
Touch of Karma- needs to be on a 1min cooldown and reduce the cooldown by 1 sec for each 5% of its bubble consumed.

Utility-
please make jade serpant, white tiger, and black ox statues all base class skills. replace the base class statues with faeline stomp, bonedust brew, and weapons of order.
make some new flashy and spec specific themed powers or at least make some of the exisiting one more flashy and potent. Sheulins gift is a great example. “shaohaos lessons” and “envokers delight” are SO powerful they are perfect examples of final tier talents. create a purpose for rising sun kick to be used in brewmaster spec, maybe bring back mortal strike on it. the ww pvp talent turbo fist should be a base part of the fist of fury skill.

-----------------talents and abilities id like to see changed---------------------
Base Monk
Skill-Transcendence/Transcendence Transfer- I love the idea of this skill but the cooldown is far to long, the range on is to short, not enough talents take advantage of this ability
Talent- Escape from Reality - this talent takes far to many prerequisite step to be useful. it takes far to long to use for minor results.
New Version split talent

  1. you may place more then 1 Transcendence Spirit down Red/Blue/Green when you use Transcendence Transfer you first go to Red then Blue then Green before Transfer goes on cooldown. the transferring to red buffs your damage for 10secs transferring to blue recovers you mana and energy at an accelerated rate for 10 seconds transferring to green increases your movement speed for 10 sec
  2. if you walk threw your Transcendence Spirit you reset to the health and mana/energy/chi you had when you placed it. and the spirit is consumed.

New Monk Base Skill- Sonic Boom- The monk blocks all incoming attacks for 0.5sec an then throws out two orbiting Chi blades that move together in a straight line away from your character. all enemies are pulled toward the center radius of the two blades. (this spell functions similarly to mages “frost orb”, or evokers “temporal anomaly”) passing threw all creatures in a straight line.
New Monk Talent- Split talent to enhance “sonic boom”

  1. Sonic Hurricane- Sonic Boom no longer travels forward but rather stays in place, the spell size is doubled and pulling effect is twice as strong
  2. Sonic Break- you may recast Sonic Boom 2 additional times with 5 seconds of the first cast

New Monk Base Skill- Screw Pile Driver- The monk grabs a nearby enemy and flies them to target location, spinning them and slamming them into the ground doing X damage and the enemy is disoriented(feared) for 0.5 sec [the skill functions like the evoker “Swoop Up” skill]
New Monk Talent- new talent to enhance “Screw Pile Driver”
Bolshoi Russian Suplex - you may recast Screw Pile Driver 2 additional times with 5 seconds of the first cast

UPDATED Talent- Hasty Provocation - should also increase the monks movement by 50% for 8 seconds

Wind Walker
Reworked Talent-Last Emperor’s Capacitor- this should be added as a base class ability Crackling Jade Lightning and gains charges each time you spend energy or mana.
New Version split talent Wind Walker ONLY

  1. Crackling Jade Lightning can be channeled while moving however if you stand still the duration extends up to 200%, and all damage beyond the base duration is increased.
  2. Crackling Jade Lightning can be channeled while moving, its range is doubled, the closer you are to the primary target will divided the remaining range among up to 5 other targets, each additional target takes more damage then the first

New Monk WW Skill- Flying Exploding Palm- The monk launches into for 0.5sec and then lands on the targets location hitting the primary tart and each adjacent enemy. (this is like Diablo Immortal’s Monk’s Exploding Palm’s “Reaching Rebuke” Talent)

Hey Johna, if I may, I’d like to give some abstract feedback for the purpose of allowing myself to further understand, but also to add my perspective.

Everything seems fine, but I want to look a little more into your talents and think about them a little more.

  1. Sonic Boom - When I think of a monk, in our lore, they’re not ones to use “orbitting blades”. We equip weapons, but we primarily use our fists, feet, wind, and chi. Perhaps you could thematically change this into Chi, but then it sounds like an offbrand “Chi Orbit” from the past.
Secondly, is this intent to pull people to the center while it flies out like a frost orb just to interupt spellcasters? And if you take the talent, do you just become a black hole, sucking in enemies? That doesn’t really seem to fit the theme of monk in WoW’s lore to me personally. It somewhat sounds like you may be getting inspiration from the monk’s abilities in Diablo 3, where they can pull people in, but that’s arguably a completely different style of monk than the World of Warcraft monk.

Pile Driver - Similar thing here, we’re not meant to be this huge slam dunking force. We’re meant to flow like water, bob and weave, and be elusive. This feels way too aggressive for what monks are (in my opinion) intended to be and wouldn’t fit the theme.

I do like the crackling jade lightning attention you’re giving, as I also agree it could use some love, especially as a caster-mistweaver myself, I would love to use it and for it to feel more effective for dps output.

Again, I want you to just think about where you’re getting your influence from and if you really think it would fit. If you haven’t played through the Mist of Pandaria story, or leveled a panda through their starting zone, I can completely see how you might not know their way of life… But monks in WoW seem to be a little more on the peaceful/elusive/use your strength against you type of monk rather than a Ground Slam! Bam!! Sonic Boom!! type of monk, that you may see in Diablo.

I just read the final sentence in your post and realized you are pulling from Diablo Immortal’s monk, and so I guess my above statements are somewhat true. The monk in diablo is nothing like the monk in WoW. Monks in WoW are peaceful farmers who follow the paths of their celestials, whereas the monk in Diablo is communed with light and dark to destroy the demons using holy mantras and light. Just a totally different style and doesn’t seem to fit well in the WoW’s monk theme.

All of this, again, is my opinion that I do believe has truth to it, and the goal is to just give you some insight on where you do have decent ideas, but that they may not fit in this universe, the same way a demon hunter in Diablo doesn’t make any sense with the demon hunter in WoW.

Please no, I rather these things get blasted to the shadow realm.

They should just go back to reducing it’s cd back down to 25 seconds honestly.
And escape instead should put the hot healing on it like it had in legion.

The only change that would make it worthwhile for ww is making it instant cast, stopping to channel anything just doesn’t feel good in what is suppose to be a fast pace martial artist.

I would love to see that. Together with several other changes, mainly for the class tree.

There is an easy fix to that. Every stack could reduce the channeling time by 5%. With 20% it would be an instacast that blasts the dmg out.

Yeah, that’s what should have been done with it all along. That change alone would make the talent worthwhile for sure

My man, I like the enthusiasm, but WW doesn’t need more flash. It wouldn’t take much for WW to absolutely crush, and a lot of it could be done through very simple changes. Taking the RNG out of our rotation would be a good start. A lot of what you list and talk about more or less used to baseline for monk in general.

Skyreach could easily be converted to an extra 10 yards on all our abilities, similar to what rogues and ferals. And just like that we don’t have to share space in melee.

In terms of doing damage, two very simple things could be done. Reduce the base WW GCD to .5 or .75 seconds, and give RSK and/or FoF 2 charges. Hell, 2 charges of RSK alone would make most specs in the game crap their pants.

I personally don’t want to be “just like rogue, feral, and now ret too”

I’ll agree with one thing 100%, Zen flight should be faster.

Yea and I personally don’t like getting randomly teleported into fire, off cliffs, or out of position because of TP. Nor do I like having to deal with extra crap to avoid because there’s a lot of melee.

I mean good thing they’re making it a choice node then and leaving the dash.

I’m opposed to it. Blizz never lets the reins loose on WW.

In a perfect world, Skyreach doesn’t exist in its current form period and we get Rushing Tiger Palm back on the PvP talent list with a talent on our spec tree that increases the range of our crap by 10 yards. That way we 20 yard teleport snares for PvP.

We don’t have enough room for the talent’s we have now considering 2 have to always be there.

100% not needed. We already can stick to every single target with ease

I’d take RTP over Alpha Tiger any day.

Depends. I do find that roll falls short on more slippery targets. There’s also the odd issue that we currently don’t really want to stick to our targets sometimes due to how squishy we are.

Not even one of the 2 I’m talking about.

Only dragons during fly, all others zero problems sticking to.

I know. But the two others you’re talking about should probably be baseline to some degree at this point. Or they could be improved to actually earn their place on the PvP talent list.

Druids and hunters are slippery. Druids less so. Surprisingly. 20 yard RTP would put a moratorium on their kiting because it’d save us a global and repositioning and cancel out one of theirs. Tack on the return of FoF stun, and it’s a good day to be WW.

These are two abilities i would like to see monks gain to really flush out the street fighter themed skills-
Guile- Sonic Boom- having a slow moving projectile that pulls the enemy in, is perfect for a class the requires you to manually move to reposition for the best melee
Zangief- Russian Supplex (Spinning Pile Driver)- honestly the evoker “Swoop Up” skill is just like Russian Supplex, and id like the monk to have it as well to better represent the grappling part of kungfu.

Current Street Fighter 2 powers
-------Ryu/Ken------
Hadouken- Chi Burst (talent)
Hurricane Kick- Spinning Crane Kick (not Chun Li’s Spinning Bird Kick)
Shoryuken- Whirling Dragon Punch (talent)
---------E.Honda---------
100 Hand Slap - Fist of Fury

-------Blanka------------
Rolling Attack - Roll
Electric Thunder - Crackling Jade Lightning close courters pushback

-------Guile-------------
Flash Kick - Rising Sun Kick

-----Chun-Li------------
Lightning Kick- (Black Out Kick with talents)

------- Dhalsim-----------------
Yoga Teleport- Transcendence/Transfer
Yoga Flame- Breath of Fire

-----------Balrog (boxer)---------
----------Vega (claw)----------
--------Sagat------------

-------M.Bison (dictator)------------
Psycho Crusher - Chi Torpedo

Like supplex from Zang we had a bear hug grappling move.

We used to have a bear hug pvp talent… but it sucked and locked you place as well as your enemy.

Wasn’t that the symbiosis ability we got?

Not sure. I just remember it was so bad it got you killed in pvp more than it set up kills.

Fire blossoms were fire.
wish I played monk ToT. but fingers crossed we see it as timewalking this expansion and the rune from thunder king becomes meta.

lol @ all the old wallwalking videos where warlocks would reposition their demonic portal with each success.
