You may be surprised how well brewmasters ox statue works. It draws aggro over AoE, you can target and heal it. Granted it doesn’t replace a hunter tank pet with hunter healing it, but the brewmaster is a fully tooled tank with healing and mobility.
Monk is not easy to master. A lot of our abilities have more utility than the obvious tooltip suggest
By itself the statue taunts AoE, and it can be healed. If you give it time to build aggro it will actually hold it against standard monk aggro building abilities. You’d still be able to pull a mob off the statue with taunt.
Taunting the statue gets everything off it and on to you.
The cooldown of statue is fairly short, so if it’s destroyed you can soon place another, or update the position of statue as you move.
Statue is great to aggro mobs with multiple casters that don’t run up to you. You can then work the carter’s one at a time.
Use statue to split a mob group that empower themselves at close range to each other.
Statue makes it real easy to protect party from adds.
It can be used as a visual aid, it can be used to pull the next mob communicating to the party how you intend to proceed once the pull your currently fighting is destroyed.
Edit: Sorry, i included some uses beyond solo play. The statue continuously builds aggro AoE by itself.
Seems I was using it wrong. I thought taunting the statue got all the mobs off of you and onto it. So then most of the time you just want to place the statue and heal it right?
Normally you don’t heal it. But you can, if you want it to last longer. I’ve actually ran instances where the statue was the “main tank” and I was my statue’s “pocket healer” it can be that strong.
Edit: I was testing If it could do it, and it did. Mind that if you replace statue it starts building aggro from scratch. If you keg or fire the mobs the statue won’t get aggro off you right away.
Right, let it build aggro before engaging with your monk abilities that generate aggro, if your plan is to keep aggro on statue. Be careful of the range the statue draws aggro not to pull more than intended. That measurement you get from experience using it.
Edit: And if you’re gonna be healing your statue a lot, mind to manage your energy carefully. Might want to skip tiger palm to save energy.
It’s also useful to know you can unsummon statue right clicking an icon, in case you see a pat approaching.
Both WW and BrM specs are quite good for solo PvE contents.
BrM is safe because of your statue. You can summon it, build a statue healing macro, do your mass pulls and heal your statue. But it’s slow as it’s a tank spec.
Also, for world PvP it’s not as strong as other tanks. A Guardian Druid or Prot Pala does way better.
WW on the other hand is amazingly good. You have nice AoE with no ramp up(other than your spinning stacks). You have karma that can help you survive mass pulls of strong enemies. You have heal for chain pulls. And you have a strong burst that can be used against single target threats. Your SEF cd can get aggro if you use it properly at the beginning of the fight (before you attack the target). And at last you have good mobility to run away. I strongly recommend WW for solo PvE content.
From my experience brewmaster has great survivability but they lack all the cool punching moves and go for more of a weapon based attacks (thats just a visual thing for me doesnt really effect much else)
