Monk feels like a forgotten class

Right now it feels like Monk is in an incredibly antiquated state comparative to other classes. It feel as though they released the class and just kind of forgot to assign devs to it overtime.

All 3 of our spec have undergone massive downgrades overtime with removal of iconic mechanics and frankly, a more linear standardized experience overall. I don’t want to get too into detail, that being said I find Windwalker in particular to be in a rather ghastly state (Comparative to MoP/WoD WW). Our scaling is consistently of poor value, % buffs are the only thing keeping us afloat, and our PvP complexity is now gone and non existent with the removal of a couple key mechanics (Mainly TEB, Chi explosion/Chi torpedo dmg).

I don’t like seeing people hate WW in PvP for being a ‘‘braindead spec’’, I don’t like being brought to raid solely for damage debuff and being at the bottom of meters with 95+ parses, I don’t want more lack of communication going forward.

Sorry for the rant, but doing progression this season really brought to light the many unadressed flaws of WW, and I feel as though not a single developer is listening. I also want to add that we haven’t had any visual updates since Monk release which just adds to the overall obsolete feeling.

It’s in such a boring state that I find myself looking for borrowed power to spice it up, which isn’t a good thing.

Feels like the unloved stepchild compared to the beloved demon hunters and deathknights

I very much feel it and not sure what caused it exactly. My thoughts are that their release was met with such backlash over panda memes and the monk being related to pandaren. It also never got much help that they are the only “hero” class that had to start all the way back at level 1 and also (correct me if I am wrong) they didn’t get that love in the beginning like DH or DK where they were all sorts of overpowered that people would be inclined to flock to them.

I feel like Brewmaster has found itself in a fairly nice niche position but WW and MW its tough. I hope there will be a time that monk gets its time under the sun but who knows!?

is this where I come in and tell you that eerie fermentation and hot trub pvp talents for brew havent been working since Xpac release?

I agree that design-wise, animations and cool mechanics Monks do feel kind of forgotten, but damage-wise? No way. We might not be top dogs, but WW damage is very good right now, specially in burst AoE scenarios. Scaling issues could use help though.

I mean, it’s because monks aren’t a hero class. They are just a regular class added to the game. The only hero classes are dk and dh.

Hey when did they change it so that jade lightning dorsnt interrupt a flag cap? I was doing a seething shore not too long ago, tried to zap a warrior and he just /lol’d at me and I was so surprised. Super frustrating.

i dont even remember. i thought it used to. maybe bfa?

I’d take an interresting mechanic over big numbers any day of the week though.

yes that is why I used the “”

The only classes that have been added to the game after the initial on release were DK, Monk, and DH. They started with DK as a hero class, pulled it back for Monk, and went back to hero class for DH. Just seems like an expectation of a new class added when 2 out of 3 were made hero classes.

Anyway I am sure if we ever get a tinker class or bard or something that will be a hero class too

lol just switch to shaman tank Kanstil

Monk is most definitely a forgotten class.

I posted about it during the Shadowlands beta. We received the least amount of feedback from devs of all the classes.

In fact, the only feedback we received was a blue post saying we’d get feedback in the coming weeks and it never happened. Talk about forgotten!

Our legendaries were released last, if not then next to last.

And finally, you’re seeing it again with 9.1. Where are the monk covenant legendaries? They’ll be released last as well and will receive the least amount of testing.

If Blizzard behaves this way because of the class representation they are in a negative loop: poor class attention leads into poor class representation leads to poor class attention.

Stop the negative cycle.

And before people point out I am whining for buffs, monks don’t need buffs. We need a reason for raid leaders to bring us to a raid or dungeon.

Think of all the “unique” things Monks bring to a raid and you can name another class that does the same but better.

Each monk spec needs something unique or the class specs are fighting with themselves over a raid spot.

The state of Monks

We bring comedic relief.

I can almost guarantee the funniest person in your raid does not play a monk.

I’m more concerned that we are the only class that has received 0 pve changes on the 9.1 ptr so far. Dks haven’t had much either, but blood did get a nice damage buff.

The fact that we have nothing right now might point to one of two scenarios:

  1. There are very big changes (hopefully centered around mw) on the way, but may only have a week or two of testing before patch day.

  2. Very small tuning changes, just to have something down on paper.

Hopefully the first happens, but in the next week or two of ptr builds instead.

Rodeo reference?
That new ability (rodeo) sounds insanely fun. It’s a shame there’s so much fundamentally wrong with brewmaster PVP.
Including clash itself. Like, what’s the successful clash cast chance anyway? 10-15%? How are we going to chain cast clash if clash never works in the first place?

I’m very close to giving up. Another week with no attention for monks. When I made another topic titled “Do devs even care about MW monks?” this was the feeling. It’s not just about raw healing power, it’s a feeling that monk is a forgotten class that they don’t care about anymore.

But, even in our own community you’ll often find that the people who claim to be experts about the class will just tell you, basically “lol, get good and go read some/my guides”.

So, in the end, it’s seems the way to go is to just switch to another spec.

This is the attitude I absolutely hate the most and will push back against. It ruins communities and makes people feel unwelcome. Elitism with no effort at helping is poison.

There are a couple players that come to mind and I will do my best to reverse-bully the elitism out of them and make the forum welcoming for players of all skill levels and off-meta goals.
