We see with some spells like Chi Wave a Black and Red variant of Chi Energy in use. Anyone else think it’d be cool if Monks could get a ‘Green Fire’ themed quest that allowed them to turn their normal spells to use Red / Dark Chi instead of Positive Chi energies? It was originally a plan for Monks to use Dark Chi so the idea does have some standing.

In the pandaria beta monks had dark chi attacks but they shelved the idea for some reason. I wish they had gone forward with it. The yin and Yang dark and light chi.

I don’t believe Monks had energy at that point in the alpha/beta, but I could be misremembering.
The idea of dark/light chi for spenders was a really cool idea, but in practice it was awful to play with and required way too much thinking on how to use them. It was very much not intuitive, even for those of us that were trying to theorycraft.
I agree 100% with you on that. It was a terrible playstyle, but I think it could be a very cool aesthetic if Monks could use either the Zen and Spirit magic, or go full on Akuma / Rage / Power mode visually.
In general, I’m in favor of all classes getting ability customization options. Nothing mechanics changing just swapping out some color pallets… for the most part.
For example… I don’t dislike the paladin playstyle, but I’m not a fan of the golden/holy coloring. I would love to make an arcane/void/fel Knight…
On the other end of the spectrum… I’d love to swap out the barrel/fire breath from brewmaster for something like a spell/chi affect. I don’t identify in the slightest with drinking culture. However, I enjoy playing a monk and really enjoy playing as a monk tank.
