Monk Changes

What do you all think?

  • Expel Harm , Fortifying Brew , Spinning Crane Kick , and Touch of Death are now available for all Monks to use.
  • Touch of Death returns to its original design
  • All three specializations will also be able to summon their Celestial to the battlefield with Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger ; Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox ; and Invoke Yu’lon, the Jade Serpent (previously Talents).

We also get to pick between 1/2H weapons again. Feelsgood.

I am honestly so impressed with the monk changes. I am genuinely going to aim my main to be a monk because of all of this good news. Very very positive about this all.

I am newer to this game and didn’t really play a monk in the past (highest character prior to my boost was like ~level 65.). But this? Reading this and googling the skills coming back?

How could I hope for more? This seems awesome. I love the summoning aspect too, that really gets me happy as a FFXIV SCH main. Big fairy is now big dragon, what up???

Edit: The one thing I don’t get is what are these orbs??? These healing orbs? I am so confused what they are.

Ok, i have no idea if those invoking skills are good or not because i never used them. But i’m sad they’re baseline, which means they’ll be part of a rotation that i’ll have to use it.

I don’t like summons, in fact, i hate summons, i really hate summons, so i might have to drop the class.

EDIT: Okay, I tested out the talent here just to see how invoke Xuen works, and is just as i expected… I’m pretty sure people are happy about this, it is probably a plus gameplay wise, but i don’t like pets/minions/companions/summons. If there isn’t a talent choice that replaces that skill for something else i’ll drop Monk for good.

Yes! So happy to do 2h as WW! I like seeing the celestials put baseline as they Just feel iconic to the class. I wish we had TIgers Eye Brew back though.

They did so good with monk changes! I like every single change they made so far. Good Job Blizzard, you did good!

So I’m new to ww as of this expansion. Can someone explain how the old (soon to be new) ToD works on high life mobs in pve content, like dungeons or raids? In those instances, is it a damage window like it is now? If not will we get something to counter the dps loss?

These are a good start. I like the freedom to choose a weapon type and expel harm and fort brew returning to the ww kit.

I would have liked to seen FoF’s full cleave and parry baked in to the PvE version as well as the sparring ability. I think old SEF and some form of TEB should have returned as well since modern SEF has never worked well and manual control will always trump automation. Lastly I was really hoping for the return of Nimble Brew and Spinning Fire Blossom. Having a ranged skill shot root and ranged chi spender was awesome and Nimble brew gave us a short duration fear / stun break which is something ww really struggles against.

SHUFFLE’S BACK OMG!!!

Shuffle being back is fine I guess… Was kind of annoying on some fights where there were periods it could drop off and you could still be attacked. For brew would like to trade ironskin which is boring for the old version of guard and elusive brew

Honestly the worst part about the changes (at least for windwalker) is the Touch of Death changes.

The older version of ToD was a nightmare to use in any PvE setting aside from solo content.

Baseline Xuen and Expel Harm are some amazing news though, that and not being locked to a weapon type.

baseline xuen is meh… it is a no thought button that for the most part gets pressed and forgotten on cd.

While having a big burst ToD is fun on the opener it is a real hamstring that makes them have to nerf our dps outside of it heavily. I would much rather an intelligent cd like TEB that we can time and control inside of procs and what not.

These changes don’t really excite me at all… except maybe that I can use staves for transmog options. I actually like the current design of WW. It feels good to play. Any issues the class has aren’t really addressed by the above… at least not on the surface.

Furthermore, I actually like the current design of Touch of Death. It fits well with my raiding/burst rotation and is kinda fun to use. With the changes, it sounds like it will be removed from the raiding rotation entirely because it will only be useful in a very narrow window when the boss is at low health? That’s kind of a bummer.

It’s worth mentioning that while I made my Monk in MoP, I didn’t really gravitate towards it until Legion. All the preamble at the start about how they’ve heard the feedback saying players want X has me reeling and saying, “no, no, no!!” because I feel the current design of classes is really appealing to me :frowning:

I just want a keg transmog like the one Chen Stormstout have.

Bring back Legion Strike of the Windlord and chi explosion.

I’m okay with the ToD change IF they move the damage to the rest of the kit.

How did this old ToD work in PVP?

Executed at 10%.
Same as the current PvP talent for it, just without the CD reset. It was also not a debuff, so you just spammed it hoping to clip them at 10%. Assuming it’s the old functionality that was usable in PvP, the earliest versions weren’t.

I play 3 things. Feral, Survival, and Windwalker.

Based on the class previews, I’m a Windwalkwr main in SL. Good to be back boys!

I agree with the strike of the windlord part. Id rather not have chi explodey back.

Also

  • Dance of Chi-Ji (Passive Talent) Has a moderate chance to make the next Spinning Crane Kick free to use and deal a significant amount of extra damage to all it strikes.

I’d rather this be baseline.

Bake it into Fist of the White Tiger I’d day.

And TBH, I’d trade a straight blanket buff to overall Dps for Hit Combo. It’s not overly fun and doesn’t change a playstyle any, so another talent there would be nice.
