Monitor response time?

How much does monitor response time matter in WoW? Is it worth it to spend the extra money to get a 1ms vs 4-5? I will be raiding and doing M+ in SL. I don’t play competitive shooters, but in addition to WoW I play open world stuff like Witcher, Red Dead, and FO4. Also play lots of turn based (XCOM, CIV6).

My current monitor is a 144hz 1080p 1ms 24" and I’m looking to upgrade to a 144 1440p 27". Sacrificing that response time can cut 1-200 off the price, just trying to know if I’ll miss it. Any advice is appreciated.

A lot of it is marketing. One display claiming 1ms may have slower response time than one that is 4ms. Look up individual monitor reviews that do detailed testing for best results.

Opinions will vary, but I don’t think response time matters much unless you play competitive stuff. Especially with WoW you’d have to be using extremely old or cheap displays with absolutely dismal response times to be able to notice. Even as far back as 2005 I don’t recall ever noticing it on the LCD that came with my 20" iMac, which would suggest that egregiously slow response times haven’t been a problem on decent LCDs for a long time.

I have sensitive eyes and I can’t really tell the difference between 1ms and 5ms. 5ms is still 200 times per second, but newer monitors are all 1ms. My 1440p 144hz screen first came out in 2015 and its 1ms.
