Mongoose bite

Hi!

Are there any players who are new or returning to the spec, who felt like the very very early levels are counter-intuitive?

Prior to level 10, the class spell book implies that Mongoose Strike could be baseline. However, when you’re able to specialise into Survival, the skill is only available through a talent node, which can be selected at level 13 at the earliest. There are no baseline skills acquired through specialising, with the exception of the initial talent Kill Shot, which is the case for all Hunter specs although the SV version requires a 2-handed weapon. The initial level 11 talent is also Kill Command, which is on a (without haste) 6 seconds cooldown.

Of note, Beast Mastery and Marksmanship hunters at least have some sense of a toolkit by level 10, thanks to Arcane Shot and Steady Shot, which are no longer available for Survs on the account of using a melee weapon (by design). Of course, an option for a newer player would be to stick with a ranged weapon until they have their bread and butter skills, but that seems to be going against the recommendations of the tooltips.

Of course, going from level 10-13 is a breeze thanks to the dungeon finder or just a few questlines. As well, it’s quite likely that very few newer hunters will have a 2-handed melee weapon they plan to use by level 10, but still that left me wondering if there are people who felt like this whole gameplay process is clunky.

I think it would be nice to have Mongoose Bite as a baseline for the spec or even in the early levels to let people try things out.

Again, I meant to orient this topic to the newer players (as few as they may be who frequent the forums), or even those who noticed this as well when picking up Survival.

Cheers!

Raptor Strike should definitely be baseline, but we aren’t the only spec with a really confusing leveling layout. I don’t think Fury warrior even has Rampage till the 30s which is kind of bonkers to me
