Still though…shouldn’t the leader be a Dark Iron? I mean it feels to me like if a white person was chosen to be the representative of a minority…not a good feel. 
She married into it, I’m pretty sure.

I had hoped Moira and Thaurisan’s son would be cooler. The Dark Irons are badass, and he should represent that.

I don’t have enough either for my response to you totally not getting it. How can she represent them if she’ not a Dark Iron? Just like how can you represent a specific group if you’re not a member of that group? Married into it isn’t good enough.
