Modifier keys (CTRL/SHIFT) keys are not working with Numpad anymore

Hello,

I took a couple weeks break from WoW and recently try to resume leveling my character however I noticed that half of my bindings are not working anymore. They’re all the ones with a modifier key on the numpad, it’s just not recognized at all but they do work on normal number keys…

Nothing changed on my computer and I tried deleting the cache files but nothing seems to work. Any ideas what I could do?

Hello Vallari,

If your Num Lock key pressed/on?

Hi, no it’s not. Numpad on its own is working, it’s just the combination with a modifier key that isn’t.

Might try editing this and moving it over to Technical Support, might be able to get some better help over there.

Do you have another keyboard you could use to see if it works on a different one?

Num Lock is what turns the keypad into a a number press. With out it on, that 1 is an End. Have you tried it Num Lock toggled and untoggled? Also Jeysca is correct. That forum is a better place for it, both for answers and for future people looking.

Well in the key bindings i can set the numpad number keys as expected so this is correct.

When you set it in keybinds, with a test spell, for instance, and u do your alt-numKey, does it show up in the Keybindings as: ALT-Num Pad 9 (for instance), and then after you’ve verified it set, exited Options, does it still fail to do the spell?

Hi Lorethon,

It’s not setting any binding on the action when I have a modifier pressed down and click any of the numpad keys.

I just uninstalled the game and reinstalling it now…it’s strange because ALT-1 works, Numpad 1 works, but ALT-Numpad 1 is not

I tested my keyboard and all the keys are fine and recognized outside of the game.

Okay,

Sounds like something weird. When I have Keybindings open, and I select, say, Action Bar 3 Button 12, second keybind slot, when hovering over it, it highlights. Then if I press (for example) alt-Num Key 9, it shows up as ALT-Num Pad 9 in the Keybindings slot.

So if your alt/modifier keys are not showing when u try and key bind then something is not right Maybe it’s an addon or a corrupted UI. Reinstall should fix it.

This could also work in the future:

I have never heard of modifier keys not working. But if you say your num lock is down and the alt keys and what nt are working, then a fresh install is maybe worth the try. But next time I’d do the UI reset first. Good luck!

I did a quick search and check this:

There is a Blue response there. Maybe that helps.

Thanks for finding these threads.

I’m still having the issue after re-installing with no addons. Seems ALT key works but not SHIFT or CTRL and I don’t have any overlay from Geforce experience/discord enabled.

That’s a bummer, I’m left handed so I need the numpad lol

shift+numkeys produce entirely different hardware events for most of the keys so they’re not good binds for shift.

Have you tried binding something to ctrl/shift-whatever then unbinding it?

Sure did, honestly I just need the CTRL-numpad combo to work. I don’t use ALT or SHIFT.

have you tried macros to see if they work?

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:ctrl] CTRL_SPELL; DEFAULT_SPELL

Hi Elvenbane,

This works because mod ctrl is actually working on most keys except the numpad numbers.

I’m also able to set CTRL-NUM keys in diablo 4 so at least I know it’s a WoW thing

Maybe i’ll have to play right handed now

I meant on the num keys. For macros of this style you only want the base key bound and all the modified key presses unbound.

I see what you mean

This is not triggering anything when I hold down CTRL and press the num key

Does it trigger if you hold ctrl and click the button?

Yes it does :upside_down_face:

k in most cases that would indicate that CTRL-key is keybound and preventing the macro from triggering.

I’m not sure why this was moved in the UI & Guides section…if someone could move it in technical support that’d be great
