If the nintendo Wii taught us anything, it’s that graphics are not a make or break feature. gameplay is.
What grass are you looking at? When you go to current expansion stuff it looks great. Not 4k stuff, but way better than if you go to old zones…
Replacing terrain and trees have very little to do with the graphics engine. WoW has had its graphics engine replaced 3 times now, but that doesn’t magically remake old assets.
If they ever did something like those Unreal makeovers I would stop playing.
They look great but they are not WoW. Warcraft has a very distinctive and, imo, timeless design.
Look back at any game from 17 years ago that tried to be realistic or cutting edge graphically. Go back just 5 years even. They age terribly.
Final fantasy 7 was a turning point in the series, but final fantasy 6 is a better game.
The game looks great graphically. It’s stylized, but modern zones, armor, and models are gorgeous.
But anyway, they’d have to basically recreate the entire game if they did a “modern graphics engine.”
looks at the 2D trees “What is this abomination?!”
I know Blizzard says the graphics are a “design choice” and I respect that, it also probably helps with the amount of textures to load.
Looking at the current zones, the nature stuff (grasses, trees, etc.) are just beautiful, what tends to be low-rez are buildings. especially the Horde structures. A little bit of updating them instead of just reusing the original designs and poly count would go a long way
Seen the terrain, trees, and everything else in Pokémon Legends Arceus? Because those are so much worse, yet the game was well received and people were obsessed with it.
Go somewhere else with your UE5 garbage requests
Just shy of never.
No they aren’t, get your eyes checked.
Engine is the main structure of a game. Change it basically means redo the game from scratch.
For wow, it means adapt 17 years of content to a new engine… I can’t even imagine how much time would take to do that. It’s cleary not viable. Too much time and money to spend on it. It’s better to do a new game. Would be cheaper and take less time.
WoW would look ridiculous with realistic graphics given how it’s coded. Basic things like looting and combat where you aren’t even close to actually touching something to pick it up or hit it.
There are enough ultra realistic games. WoW doesn’t need to be one of them.
Play other games. A lot of us like the look of WoW.
I personally don’t mind the current style at all. I just wish we’d get more customization options, like dynamic colors and dyes. Flavors for players.
They are trying though. Isn’t the game DX12 currently? That’s more to say for than FFXIV. Have you seen the anti aliasing in that game?
Meanwhile my girlfriend didn’t want to play Elder Scrolls online cause all the races are ugly.
Wow is doing something right
Yeah exactly, like even just going back and playing classic after all this time its completely fine, like you said the design is timeless. Its not like you look at WoW today and it looks like morrowind or something, it still holds up because of its uniqueness.
Go outside, if you want real looking trees, and terrain
