I have noticed that many mobs seem to have some form of multiattack.
That is, when they reach you in melee, they will instantly perform one, two or even three extra attacks; and it shows up in the combat like as if they had some secret windfury effect.
I have seen this happen in retail, but it also seems to happen in classic.
It seems to happen most often when kiting/being cased or when a mob switches target; and will immediately perform multiple attacks on you/your pet. It also happens across many different mob types, so it seems less related to any specific ability but more a bug with the general mechanic.
Has anyone else experienced this bug? Or knows what causes it?
Some mobs build up thrashing attacks over time. For example, Princess in Maradon has swung at me 7 times in a row once. Certain mobs just have the ability to do it, like Syctheclaws in the barrens, or any mob with “thrasher” in their name.

Did you check the combat log?
Some mobs don’t just nelee and have actual abilities that they use.
The Vultures in Shimmering Flats have an Execute ability for example.

Sounds like a mob that has the thrash ability.
I have encountered this as well mostly in dungeons, I will agro a mob and start walking it toward my tank and it’ll randomly multi hit me for the rest of my barrier and like a 3/4th or my health bar randomly. It gets kind of annoying getting close to death or dying from random fists of death from a mob
It’s not only thrashing mobs, I think there’s a bug somewhere. It’s as if mobs can have attacks stored in some queue and have them all go off at once. Perhaps I notice it more on this lock cause I do a lot of fear-kiting.

Ever notice that VERY often you get a mob down to 1% health, they begin to cast something and your next attack will not happen until that cast completes?
It may be a consequence of spell batching and leeway. I have noticed even low level mobs in the overworld do this routinely. They never did in Vanilla.
I found this while trying to figure it out
Posted in 2006, dude gets hit like 6x. A bug from a specific short era maybe?
Yes the mobs benefit from leeway a lot it seems they can hit you from at least 10yard with their melee attacks
Us oldschool EQ players call that doubling, tripling, or quadding/flurrying.
Its not a bug.
I’ve killed mobs and had them still cast on me.

These were a specific proc, like windfury or hand of justice or sword spec. Some mobs in classic store up autoattacks when you kite them and unleash them all at once when they reach you. They will never do it if you are within range the entire time.

As I said, its not a bug. Paladins can do it too. Though theirs was limited to 4 attacks. Can’t have them flurrying a raid boss. Again.
