Mobs different from vanilla ? ( mage pulls?)

So watching videos of mages pulling 20 mobs. And mowing them down.
I go to the same exact spot. after 5 mobs, they all run back to where they where.

Like in the vanilla video the mage is on a horse and runs through them gathers.
If you do the exact same thing exact same spot after the mob gets a certain distance they all run back, it doesnt make sense. These same mobs, will chase you for an hour and half if you run close to them solo. Is there some mechanic to stop gathering and kiting ?

You have to use rank 1 arcane explosion to gather properly, as long as a mob is taking damage they will follow you indefinitely, I dragged the tauren mill guards once all the way to south shore doing this and they had a mini war with our guards was pretty funny

I understand what your saying. But have you watched a vanilla video of a mage gather? They mount up and gather the WHOLE camp, nothing resets nothing evades and runs back. So im asking if things have changed you can no longer do that. Or like you said you have to arcane explosion to get to follow, which means its not the same as vanilla.

I have noticed certain mobs having a shorter or longer leash…i feel it has something to do with how the engine actually works now…

I have had mobs who I had a dot on reset, and very very close to where I pulled it…

And I have had mobs chase me halfway across a zone.

There definitely could be bugs or differences from vanilla and differences from pserver.

But heres this.

-If you pull a mob near a mob that is evaded, it will reset your mob.

I found a source that says mob leash is based on time (based on level) and not necessarily distance.
1-29: ~11 sec
30-39: ~12 sec
40-44: ~13 sec
45-49: ~14 sec
50-60: ~15 sec

However you can reset the leash timer by either attacking the mob or letting the mob attack you.

“If I aggro a gray mob and kite it without being hit, it will reset after 11 sec.
If I aggro a gray mob and run away while it beats on me the entire time, it will reset after 11 sec (11 sec after the first melee hit to be precise).
If I aggro a gray mob and kite for 10 sec then get hit once, the leash has been extended. I can then resume kiting for another 10 sec, rinse/repeat.”
