Just curious if any of you have mobile or cellular isp that can handle playing Wow. I’m really tired of my cable Internet and they are becoming increasingly unreliable
Cellular is going to entirely depend on exactly where you lie in the footprint, its going to generally have a higher latency than a fixed line service [not 1000 or anything] but can easily make the bandwidth [if you have good reception] to play wow not sure I would want to download a patch off of it though. 4G/LTE would be bare minimum, 3G would not have the bandwidth in most places. 5G and 5G full would be decent but I have no experience with the latency on those theoretically it should improve over 4G if you can find one not in the 600Mhz-800 Mhz band but up in the Ghz range, and you have good signal levels [highly unlikely without more mini towers spread around] it may just be able to replace cable with around 100Mbps speeds.
What exactly is wrong with your service that you can’t get fixed? I’ve worked in the cable industry for 14 years. Sometimes things are hard to track down when they are intermittent but most of the time new fittings and an ingress check clears the internet up fine.
You’re making the somewhat bold assumption that the ISP is actually trying to fix the problem. While not every area has useless support, it’s far from unheard of.
While traveling I’ll often use my Cell service to run WoW instead of the incredibly unreliable and slow hotel WiFi service that are usually available. I’d on average experience more latency than if I was hardwired at home but it is far from unplayable. I wouldn’t raid Mythic on mobile but it really isn’t as bad as it seems.
I get about 100-200ms ping on my data playing wow, however I am basically right next to the cell tower.
Running WoW on 4g verizon.
Totally fine.
No I am pretty sure they want you to keep paying them.
You’re assuming there’s actual competition. They’re not too worried about losing business when they’re the only cable ISP around. They do the bare minimum and call it good.
If you have decent coverage, hotspot from mobile should be fine. When I used 4G/LTE, it added about <100ms in latency, and I could raid with that. Though, right now I have only 1 bar where I live, I’d better stick to cable internet.
Latency would be horrible with cell connection, no mobile service is designed for gaming (no matter what they say) , is even worse then running Wifi to your router (which is bad enough)

Do you happen to have Comcast? I get major lag spikes through Comcast Cable internet but it’s resolved when I use my phone as a hotspot.
I have a LG Rebel 4 on Straighttalk; which uses Verizon as a carrier.
Not entirely true. On Verizon and regularly have 70ms ping with minimal spikes. Cellular data has come a long way.
Your just bitter, I have worked for one for 14 years and yes they are a monopoly but no they do not try to NOT fix things. They roll me out in a truck 365 days a year, I do on call in the middle of the night [literally] for businesses, if they did not care they would not incur this costs at all, cus I ain’t cheap.
This is where we get back to literally to my first post:
Your area might be good and you might know what you’re doing but that doesn’t mean it’s universal. Even within the same ISP, your service can vary widely depending on where on the map you fall.
Yes it’s xfinity and I get lots of DC. I think they are stealing bandwidth from paying customers to give it to everyone because of covid.
I used to live behind the redwood curtain in Humboldt county, California.
The copper infrastructure is crumbling. The power and cable lines are absolute trash and need replaced, yet they WON’T. The projected cost is astronomical, and the number of people affected isn’t high enough for them to care.
Don’t think everyone does, or will.
The sad part is that taxpayers gave so much money for telecos to bury fiber everywhere in US, but most rural areas still have garbage internet. Hopefully things become better with SpaceX satellite internet.
Satellite internet is even worse due to the length of travel for packets.
I know a few players that play MMOs on satellite. their latency is trash.
I played and even raided on a hotspot back in Cataclysm because I lived in a remote area with no high-speed internet options. It worked just as well, definitely not the highest speeds, but it never dropped me or prevented me from doing anything. I’d recommend a dedicated hot spot over your mobile hot spot. Call your carrier and ask for a trial month!
Spacex is gonna be different. It’s low orbit and it’s a mesh of thousand of satellites. Light travels faster in a vacuum, so in some cases people might get even a lower latency. The minimum latency is something around 60 ms they say, but Latin America people, for example, who have to play on US servers might get lower ping than over fiber network from them to US.
