Mob Tethering/Kiting

Hello. I’m normally fairly quiet and non-complacent, but this is just ridiculous.

I just returned to classic to prep for TBC, and I find out that Blizzard absolutely ruined mob group tethering because of a single class quest mob? That’s absurd. How did that even go down without an uproar from the community? You were about to riot over blob shadows but changes to core gameplay mechanics are fine?

How are you supposed to kill quest mobs in packs? Just kill one and die then run back and repeat ad infinum until 60? Even classes that can AOE root are screwed. If you have one ranged mob in the pack your whole pull is ruined if you’re a mage, and any other class just has absolutely no chance.

What the hell were you thinking Blizzard? You can’t change how one named mob in a single class quest behaves without changing the entire inner workings of the game as a whole? Ridiculous. If I didn’t have a 60 already, I’d unsubscribe right now. If I had to level through this garbage you would not be getting my money, period.

It’s a shame that kiting was changed to prevent bringing world bosses to major cities, because those were great memories. But I really don’t have empathy that it has made mage AoE levelling slightly less convenient. It’s still one of the fastest levelling strategies by far.

I mean ya I’m posting on my mage, but like I said, even mages don’t have a chance.

How does any other class have a chance? I have an AOE root and a half of my abilities slow the target. How is a warrior supposed to pull this off? You literally just have to pray that you kill 1 mob before the other 7 kill you. It’s dumb as hell.

It did not pass unnoticed.

It’s still very possible to kill packs, just a little less convenient.

You just need to learn to walk backwards.

What is the OP even talking about? Lol

It just requires you to pay a little bit more attention and play more cautiously. That quest to burn the tent in wpl is brutal though. You ggro the entire crowd and their dogs.

I suspect they wanted to AoE grind and found it harder to do? If so, good riddance.

Well they are giving the option to buy boosts to 58, if that will alleviate the issue for you?

But they haven’t made any changes? Lmao

Maybe she’s a bad mage, then. I know that if I’d play a mage, I’d fail. I’m too used to blocking with my face.

Hey so actually if you continuously damage a mob it will NEVER stop combat with you.

So if you come across a group of mobs you’re struggling with, you can just pick one and keep damaging it while not touching any of the others. Eventually they will reset and you’ll be stuck with just the one!

Fireblast works great for this! Good luck!

  • Fixed an issue that caused Ossirian the Unscarred to not reset correctly when quickly engaging back into combat.

I wonder what that changed. I haven’t AoE grinding open world in quite some time but I have been leveling a Druid, and had to run away from a few packs that were hitting harder than I expected. Lol and I didn’t notice anything odd about how they chased me or reset. And I know in dungeons nothings changed about mobs resetting because I AoE farm in dungeons almost every single day.

The mobs you weren’t attacking used to peel off faster. Now they follow you a long ways and beat on you the whole time.

I mean if anything that’d help a mage with AoE grinding. Lol but yeah I’ve run away from a few packs on the Druid I’m leveling this week and I didn’t notice the change so I’m curious exactly how much of a change it actually was.

I think the big change is they made it harder to peel off just one mob, they stay linked together.

There’s some debate/discussion about this. I certainly don’t remember exact mob behavior, but on classic launch you could pull a pack of mobs by only attacking one and kite until everything else reset, then kill the add.

Now if an add is part of a pack that will pull together nothing will reset unless all of them reset. You can pull a patting mob that incidentally grabbed another mob and that one will reset, but again if the pack is all or nothing they won’t reset except together.

I have not run into major issues with this playing the game “normally”, but I am pretty sure the pull and reset method was how things worked back then because fighting 3 or 4 mobs at a time is very dangerous for most classes.
