MOB corpse sparkles even with no loot

Every MOB corpse sparkles and you can go through the loot process, but the bags just disappear as soon as they open.

I don’t think this is a bug. You can get unlucky killing beasts that drop nothing. It sparkles regardless until you attempt to loot it. They disappear as soon as they open if you try to auto loot an empty corpse.

I think it’s only to do with beasts, and it’s because of skinning. It’s so other people can’t immediately skin your mob if it had no loot.

Running 2 accounts and noticed this. First character loots (something or nothing) and empties the corpse. Second character still sees sparkles on the body and tries to loot and gets error message to the effect of ā€˜someone else is looting this’.

That might be what the issue is stemming from. I believe that only skinners should see the ā€œskinnableā€ sparkle.

I’m killing and skinning alone, so no one else is involved. I kill the mobs, and mouse over them. They always show as lootable. I right click. But half the time a loot window opens, but too briefly to display loot before disappearing. I hear the sound of loot going into my bag, but nothing appears there.

It’s especially annoying because when I’m killing a rare spawn like a kodo for the kodo leather to make a bag, I need 3 drops but have to kill like 9 of them to get that.

People who aren’t skinners must not be noticing, because skinners kill many more mobs than non-skinners.

Definitely a bug.

I’m questing alone and I am not a skinner and I get the ghost sparkles. It’s very frustrating. I feel like I’m missing out on potential quest items.

Extremely frustrating bug. The last 20 or so mobs I’ve killed sparkle with no loot. I tried turning off auto-loot thinking that was it, but no dice. The majority of my quests are for drops and I’m unable to get a single piece of loot off of any mob.

I had this happening to me tonight also, but i thought it was something that one of my add ons was causing. I also thought that maybe i ws missing out on something cause i wasn’t getting anything added to my bags when this happened even thought it sounded like I was.

I am having the same exact problem you describe, on all four of the toons I’ve created. I run two of them solo, and two in a group with my husband. Grouped or not group, it’s the same problem. And the issue is most prominently noticed on my skinner, because I can’t skin a good percentage of the beasts due to the ā€œsomeone else is looting thisā€ error. But it’s just as much of an issue on my other toons. I would say 25% of the time I get no loot, and definitely feel like I’m missing out on drops. :frowning:

same issue here

It’s a bug mobs with no loot should not show that they have loot this really isn’t that complicated lmfao

No it’s not. In vanilla, a beast with no loot always sparkled until you attempted to loot it and find out it has no loot. It’s this way on purpose, to encourage maximum hope to make the disappointment greater when you find out nothing dropped.

Okay, but then why am I unable to skin a corpse once they’ve tried to loot it? I just get the error ā€œsomeone else is looting thisā€.

I’ve played classic in private servers. Whenever a mob sparks there, it has loot. And it’s really rare that a mob has no loot. I’ve noticed huge difference when farming grays to vendor, just cause 1/3 of the mobs show they have loot even thought they don’t and thus it’s not a good way to farm gold in new Classic. Very frustrating tbh, like you’re walking there to loot it just to get nothing. I think it’s a bug cause it didn’t use to be like this, maybe an intentional ā€œbugā€ that’s annoying af

For the last time, it was always like this in classic. Many beasts have no loot. It’s what makes them so frustrating to kill. It’s an MMO. It’s supposed to be frustrating. The frustration is what makes the satisfaction more grand later on.

And they always sparkle. It’s not a bug. It would be more confusing if they didn’t sparkle, because you would be left wondering why you cannot loot it, or if you had already looted it, or if it is your turn yet when the loot is set to ā€˜group loot’.

Understood and accepted. But there’s still the error of being unable to skin the mobs with no loot when in a group. Party member attempts to loot, but receives nothing because there is no loot. Skinner attempts to skin, but is given the error ā€œSomeone else is looting that corpse.ā€ It doesn’t seem to register that the corpse has already been looted when no loot is received.

I honestly don’t know where you’re getting this information from. Mobs without loot should not sparkle. By definition, sparkling means they have loot. i don’t know where the disconnect here is.

And if by some off chance this is actually correct, with the current lag on servers between looting and the mob registering as available to be skinned, it’s annoying. It’s not ā€œpart of the gameā€ to have a frustrating mechanic that serves absolutely no purpose. It’s a bug, plain and simple. Unless you can find evidence of this actually being in live vanilla, which you won’t this is, again, a bug. Stop defending stupid bs because you feel the game should purposely be frustrating to players because it’s vanilla. That’s a deeply stupid argument.

It’s a bug. period

Mobs without loot absolutely sparkled in Vanilla. This wasn’t always the case; at some point it was introduced as aā€¦ā€featureā€, I guess?

I thought for a while that I was being robbed of loot with autoloot enabled, but for a brief moment this weird loot window that says ā€œempty slotā€ shows up, though.

So, whether or not it’s a bug depends on whether you question in the context of ā€œdoes this make senseā€ versus ā€œdid this happen back thenā€.

It’s a bug, please fix it and stop telling us that frustration is part of a game we’re all paying to play. All mobs drop loot.
