I’m sure many of you have noticed an issue with mob agro lately. You’re questing in redridge and you are hitting 1 mob far away from a gnoll camp of 5 and out of nowhere that camp just decides to go active and come for you…
Or random people run by and trigger a camp then suddenly all those mobs just ignore the guy running by and run 3-4 camps away TO YOU even though you have no HoT’s on the guy running or anything to remotely affect them getting agro to you.
This didnt happen in SoD, SoM or original 2019. Something server side got screwed up. Mobs dont just go active far away and go beyond their normal leash distance and go straight for you.
They also dont swap targets freely without effects being placed like HoT’s or a random hit. Someone can just agro a pack and walk right near you and they shift for you instead.
This again was not a thing in past releases. Keep in mind they made some changes in this just like SoD and things can be wonky but yes this exists.
It’s called social aggro. Not all mobs have it, but many do. If a mob runs through the aggro range of another mob of the same type (and those mobs have social aggro), they will chain together and join combat together.
Social aggro is why you can be fighting mobs with other people around you, not in a group, and the mob you are fighting heals a mob someone else is fighting.
I’m not a changes guy, but I’m glad to express my utter irritation with the whole mobs going to you when someone else aggroed them and died thing. I want to smack those players so badly.
As I pointed out in just 1 of the situations where this happened I was standing with 1 mob far away from any of the other gnolls way past 100 yards and they have no players near them. Then they activate somehow.
I had something similar happen the other day outside the cave with the escort in Red Ridge.
Was fighting a couple of the mobs on one side of the camp at the entrance and all of a sudden the whole rest of the camp agroed even though there were no runners and no one pulled them. There were some other players in the area though that ran by.
Just ran into redridge gnolls again and saw a group complaining of a single priest causing packs to transfer agro to the group causing danger of deaths.
I could only imagine the dangers now on HC thanks to this.
