The problem isn’t the genre, it’s the players.
MMOs are still tons of fun, you just need to…actually play to have fun, instead of playing for absurd hyper-competition that the game was never designed for.
So then it’s not a problem at large, it’s a problem for people who are mad about it. And by your own description, the people who are mad about it are the minority opinion, which means we can safely dismiss their concerns.
I certainly do.
