Min-max has been a thing in RPG before MMOs were a thing. Heck it was a thing before computers were a thing.
So you’ve never asked another player advice on how to play your class, never looked up any kind of guide at all?
“that kind of player” pays to play this game just the same as you, and is helping to keep this game going for you. Be a little humble and stop worrying about what others do, you may find life a bit more enjoyable.
And to add, the story lines in this game has my character set up to be the champion of the world in some form or another, so it could be argued that looking up how to make your character as strong as possible is part of the RPG of the game
I think this is a big part of it in WoW.
People bust out the class/talent/optimization excuse WAY earlier than it’s actually needed for the content.
I mean you could blame some talents too, some are just way worse than others. I feel so much talents are just terrible. And we hope they can balance covenants? xd Atleast you aren’t locked into bad talents when you realise at some point they are just terrible.
People always ask me, do you know how to play your class. Well… yeah, I have been playing it, but I also play SOLO for 99% of my time. So I have come up with a playstyle that works for me. It is not optimal for group content. I am ok with that. Now, either stop bothering me about my dps, or don’t ask me to join you. You needed a slot filler, I was available. Deal with it.

Yeah, and it’s been there forever.
Improved thunderclap in classic anyone?
Part of me thinks they keep a few unbalanced on purpose to avoid a trend toward apathy where it doesn’t matter what you pick everything is the same anyway. And it’s difficult to make them all viable in various ways/play styles when there are only a few people care about and they overlap frequently.
A very integral part of an RPG is building your OWN character, making meaningful choices as to what types of powers they will have, their stats, their spec, talents etc.
As a video game the goal is to create a character which fits your own playstyle and you enjoy playing, entertainment is the goal of this.Yet what do we see now from many players asking?
"What is the best build?"
Ralph, apart from one talent you literally have the cookie cutter Marksmanship PVE build.
You even have the common Azerite traits and Essence picks.
Look… I see the point you are trying to make but you are just as guilty as anyone. There is no chance you are going to convince anyone you didn’t look up other MM hunters or guides to see what they are building.
And your threads are garbage.
The game doesn’t work agaisn’t me
It does, the game tells you choose a covenant and you will stay with that abillity for m+, raids and pvp.
You dont like that so instead you fight the game by making 4 different characters, you are punished by spending so much more effort and time because you wanted to go against the game itself
Yes you just don’t respect people using a hammer to hit a nail. They all need to use their bare hands to push the nail in. Because using a hammer is “no-brainer” choice xd
That is a pretty perfect example, if you have a hammer in your tool collection and you need to hit a nail, you obviously are gonna use the hammer, there is no thought, it is a no brainer like i said.
And the same goes for optimal builds before each boss, same no brainer
So you’ve never asked another player advice on how to play your class, never looked up any kind of guide at all?
Why would I need a guide when it comes to the creation of MY OWN CHARACTER that I WILL BE PLAYING so it needs to fit my playstyle and gameplay so I can enjoy it.
I wont look up for talent builds, I will look at each talent, see what fits my playstyle and then choose. Now if some choices are boring and dont affect my gameplay such as corruption being a random damage proc I will sim those as they dont affect my gameplay.
You arent supposed to use a guide on how to create YOUR OWN CHARACTER
“that kind of player” pays to play this game just the same as you
A game a designed for hardcore RTS players
Said rts game becomes rly popular and a huge hit
Non rts players start whining about core RTS elements about the game since they only joined the game because of hype and popularity rather than love for the genre.
These people should be ignored.
It seems this game’s popularity has attracted all the wrong kinds of people who joined this game because it was cool and hip rather and popular than because they enjoy mmorpgs.

"What is the best build?"They have no interesting in THINKING and building their own characters, they have no interesting in making major choices and being invested in their own characters, all they care about is the highest mathematical build, they dont care about the RPG aspect of an RPG, all they want is to follow a guide and brainlessly jump into some content to “win”. Their goal isnt to play the mmorpg, their goal is to win just like any other videogame so they can feel better even though games are designed to be won making the achievement quite meh if you are self aware enough.
And now that we are introduced with strong RPG elements such as the covenants? The GOGOGO brigade that just wants to “win” instead of playing the MMORPG wants to change the game and ruin it for us who actually enjoy mmorpgs.
In other words, mmoRPGS are not for everyone, if what you dont want to think and build and character and all you care about is to just go into a game and “win” go play CoD or some moba, mmoRPGs include character building, thinking and choices.
all of this text about RPG…when wow in fact its more ruled by its MMO wording than the RPG…dude, a rpg respects choice, fantasy and agency which means the whole system that forces players to interact in order to make progress in most systems already contradict each other.
Its like playing role-playing game but then you wanna be a solo edgy or whatever character but the master simple wants the group to be together and doing stuff while on that, thats how things works out.
wow is a game that features rpg elements, but as a true rpg it simple fails to fulfill its nature
Ralph, apart from one talent you literally have the cookie cutter Marksmanship PVE build.
You even have the common Azerite traits and Essence picks.
What are you saying, he was smart enough to pick those himself, he saw the potential in each talent and azerite/essences and came up with a build, players like rogerbrown probably copy him.
Look… I see the point you are trying to make but you are just as guilty as anyone. There is no chance you are going to convince anyone you didn’t look up other MM hunters or guides to see what they are building.
See, that is a perfect example of your brain being unable to realize that not all of us are slaved to guides or following other players.
Some of us have a brain of our own and think and choose what we like, it is almost insulting to even suggest I would look some random MM hunter when I have a brain and are able to read.
But the fact you dont believe it shows the vast difference between us, you think following guides is the norm, I am anything but normal thankfully.
It does, the game tells you choose a covenant and you will stay with that abillity for m+, raids and pvp.
It’s not tuned like that yet.
You dont like that so instead you fight the game by making 4 different characters, you are punished by spending so much more effort and time because you wanted to go against the game itself
It’s not the worse thing that could happen, I just like playing one character because I care about this character because I like rpg and I like my character because I’m attached to it.
That is a pretty perfect example, if you have a hammer in your tool collection and you need to hit a nail, you obviously are gonna use the hammer, there is no thought, it is a no brainer like i said.
And the same goes for optimal builds before each boss, same no brainer
So you prefer people hitting nails with their hand because you don’t respect their choice to take a hammer, noted. I don’t call your choice no brainer, at this point it’s just vile to think of it that way. It just show you lack of understanding.
Some of us have a brain of our own and think and choose what we like
Considering you practically followed a guide verbatim I don’t think you do have a brain, Ralph.
It’s not tuned like that yet.
Never once did i say anything about being tuned.
You choose one ability which means you will be better at X encounters and worse at X encounters, and if you cant live with it then clearly you shouldnt be playing games with actual choices.
if you cant live with it then clearly you shouldnt be playing games with actual choices.
Could say the same if you can’t play the game because it doesn’t have meaningful choice. Really you’re just being vile.
Thing is this being a role playing game how that role is played is determined by the players themselves. The choices they make are a reflection on how they choose to play that roll.
The way you make choices for your character is how you roll play it and that works for you but you are basing things on how you think an rpg should be played and are trying to fit others into your little box.
What are you saying, he was smart enough to pick those himself, he saw the potential in each talent and azerite/essences and came up with a build, players like rogerbrown probably copy him.
“i WaNt MeAnINgFuL cHoI- ooh, a guide!!!”
The funny thing is he thinks he’s smart enough to tell which talents are good on his own but he’s a 1500 arena player and doesn’t even complete raids on Heroic (or normal for that matter).
I am not a normie to worship norms
Then you have no point in arguing your version of what an RPG is or how everyone else should play an RPG because you’ve conceded that your view may not be the norm.
Just point out what you like or don’t like about WoW just like everyone else without trying to dictate how everyone else should play an RPG.
Or make a guide on how to play an RPG. Maybe someone will follow it.
You are following a guide, you are making 0 choices, someone else smarter than you is making them for you
Doesn’t mean they are smarter . They are more likely theory crafters that have done the alpha / beta ,and ptr and have already test a lot of the stuff out and are giving their views on what works best and why .
Oh look! Ralph is fishing again.
