MM PvP Buffs Next Week

I can play my hunter again, YAY!

Good buffs.

Black arrow will once again be stronger than kill shot against mail/plate, and we’re almost back at the 20% we had for aimed/rapid fire

Also, this shows the devs’ intentions for MM in PVP - a caster stomper spec :joy:

spec is still dependant to withering fire. like pillar-frost dk -shadow dance-sub rogue.

This just shows you the incompetence; a nerf they rolled out a few weeks ago is being reversed. Total proof that none of them play their own game, let alone MM Hunter in PvP.

We’re not getting those weeks back. Thankfully I got my new 378 ilvl :gun: in Classic Cata so I knew where to put in the work instead. I’ll be ready to start off fresh for Dragon Soul.

Also, I should add that this change should help vs. Versatility which I know and have heard that it’s on every PvP gear. I was even telling my favorite undead rude boy that I’d go naked of Vers, and just do Crit/Msty all the way with a “garnish” of Haste. I can already tell the problem of trying to PvP as a MM is that Vers was butted out.

This is literally a revert.

Because if you nerf a spell by 10%, you need to buff it back by around 12% to get it to where it was.

Say, a spell did 100 damage.
You nerf it by 10%, it starts doing 90 damage.
But if you buff it back by 10%, it will now be 10% of 90, so it will go up to 99 damage.

So, if you want to put it back where it was initially, it must be buffed by a little over 11%

It only took them 1 month to realize the 10% nerf was a mistake…

Wrong, the bug still exists that the pvp modifers on these abilities is missing. these buffs do nothing.

Why not buff them and make Dark ranger actually viable in pve too , Im so sick of this expansion already

They are adding 15% pvp modifier back to rapid fire

Aimed shot has a pvp modifier even on live

The pvp modifiers were never missing. You can see them in the spell data dump on simc’s github, it comes straight out of the game’s code:

There’s one guy in particular on the hunter discord that is actually really good at hunter, but is extremely adamant that the pvp mods aren’t being applied. I’ve tested it in every way possible and it’s just not true.

Which is, I think part of people’s misunderstanding. You actually lost 30% worth of modifiers from the old dark ranger tree, because old withering fire contributed a 10% flat buff to all of your damage. These pvp mods are about half of the lost damage.

I think that if there’s still a bug with marks, it might be worth looking into it’s base mastery scaling (i.e., they could have accidentally nerfed mastery on all of marks’ spells when they fixed the double dip on black arrow), but this is approximately as far as you can get from only being able to test client-side without debugging priviliges. It has never actually been the pvp mods, though.

This is the go-forward problem for marks. These buffs will either do nothing, or we’ll get close to the tipping point of low armor targets getting accidentally yeeted when you get super lucky with procs in early trueshot. You can’t just nerf withering fire in pvp past a certain point without giving it a choice node, because there will be a point at which simply not taking the talent, not filling out your hero tree becomes the best option in order to retain the ability to cast unnerfed black arrows in trueshot.

The other problem with their approach is that they’re assuming everyone will always play dark ranger. Sentinel has always had +15% mods and has always been situationally decent into various things. Buffs on base spells have the potential to get out of line from this angle as well. You can eat pet classes alive with sentinel if you know how and when to cleave with it properly to funnel a lot of damage into something.

Imagine if MM hunter ends up being the counter to BM hunter. xD

Currently, Aimed shot has a 1.55 PVP modifier, this is correct.

Rapid fire, however, does not have one.

This is the correct spell to look at:
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=257044/rapid-fire
(the one that ends in 4)
This is the spell in your spellbook and talent tree.

The spell you’re linking (with the 1.45 PVP modifier):
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=257045/rapid-fire
(the one that ends in 5)

is an old version of Rapid fire and it’s not used in the current version of the game.

So, currently
Aimed shot: 1.55
Rapid fire: 1

Tomorrow:
Aimed shot: 1.7
Rapid fire: 1.15

Drustvar and everyone else use spellid 257045 to track it. Also doesn’t make sense that an older version would be a bigger number. You don’t usually iterate backwards in versioning. They even comment in changes to them.

Did these buffs go through? My aimed shot is hitting for even less than what I remember. Just on pvp training dummies, I’m doing 300k-600k aimed shots.
