Do I go volley route or the trick shot multi shot route
If you need AoE, there is zero reason not to take both.
If you don’t need AoE, the only reason to take Volley is because it’s on the way from Deathblow to Trueshot.

If you don’t need aoe you’re playing the wrong spec, it’s all MM has going for it now.

You are way underestimating volley + Razor fragments + Salvo.
I spec that way instead of multishot/trick shots
I’m not. That’s what I’m talented into 99% of the time (incl Multi-Shot and Trick Shots).
I’m saying for pure ST you can skip Volley, except that it’s on the way from Deathblow (and Razor Frags) to Trueshot, so you’ll take it anyway unless you really like Steady Focus for some reason.
Are you going all the way down to Salvo for pure ST? I’d think Bullseye and Legacy would be better damage, though I’ll admit I haven’t run a patchwerk sim with Salvo.

I’m likely misunderstanding you, but I run Salvo/volley/RF and multishot/trickshots in my build? They’re not mutually exclusive.
If we’re talking pure-ST I play BM so no input on that matter.
