Simple way to help. Dont touch damage, gives us an easier way to trap, which is already pretty tough with grounding, intervene and so many stuns, slows. Gives hunters a bit more breathing room to maybe cast an aimed shot and helps with CC outside of running so we can land kills and best of all, doesnt force us to be kyrian to get wall kills.
Thoughts? Would that be too much? What other ways to help MM hunters a bit?
it would help if pets didnt get auto cleaved down by people who arent even targeting them, and not just for hunters, but locks as well (but atm hunters need it more imo).
yeah this is the issue. They originally nerfed the DR back when they pruned MoP hard into WoD. They were nerfing everybody’s instant CCs back then.
Imo, its actually out of place as an incapacitate versus a disorient. Like so much so that it is totally asinine. Like just look at the disorient DR list and its literally every ability that shares the scatter shot animation lol.
Anyway, i liked playing against scatter trap back in MoP. you could ground it, reflect it, position properly to eat trap etc. it was interactive. I’d think they could realign the DR to the way it should be and find other ways to balance this. It doesn’t have to be a 30 second CD, and it doesn’t have to be a 20 yard range. Either of these traits could be used to balance it instead of purposefully putting scatter shot into the wrong DR category. Heck, i’m sure it would still be staple if scatter was a 1 min CD or 10 yard range. better than nothin!
No ty. Traps are a PITA to land with an arm time and constantly get missed or eaten by pets. Why would we nerf traps in order to buff traps…
Give MM mending bandage.
Make counter a 10 second cooldown.
Remove DT and bring back old school LnL. Each time you land a freezing trap your next RF does 100% more damage.
Take Resonating Arrow off GCD.
Make mend pet remove CC / slows from your pet on each tick.
Buff KC and give BM scatter. Buff BM mastery.
Also I know this would never happen, but how sick would it be if they removed CD on Camo? You could macro trinket -> call pet -> feign death -> disengage -> camo all without GCD.
It would be sweet but never happen - Make cravens remove stuns
I was landing more traps with scatter and trap then the garbage we have now. We are almost constantly reliant on our team to setup our CC chain rather then simply getting the CC ourselves.
Would change little. Make the lock out be comparable to other similar CD kicks.

It must be the rating difference. I can see players being more coordinated in higher brackets and using other classes abilities to land traps. But I still would hate to see an arming time and don’t think scatter trap w/out dr and w/out arming would be game breaking.
I actually agree with you that making counter similar to other kicks like CS is the way to go. They really gutted our CC by making scatter DR w/ trap on top of removing silencing shot.
scatter trap is as iconic to hunter pvp as anything else and it blows my mind they ever changed it. dealing damage as marks doesnt feel super great to me, feels really stop starty and kind of clunky. smoothing out the rotation and getting scatter off the trap DR could do wonders for marks but so could putting more juice into steady shot because every spec could use more sustained damage and less burst
The arming time was great. it gave interesting counter play to an otherwise instant cast, 30 sec cd, ranged CC chain that lasted over 10 seconds. and its not like it was game breaking for the hunter. it just gave the defending team a little bit of time to try and make a high skill play to eat the trap.
Well, if it was just about trapping sure w/e but the rest of your post sounds like you just aren’t that great at getting trained by melee and want even more tools to add to your batman belt of anti melee.
I know not everyone is Jellybeans but the hunter toolkit only really has problems kiting WW’s and that’s because everyone has problems kiting WW’s. Giving Hunter’s Stormbolt isn’t the answer.
Arming doesn’t really work anymore. Every class has significantly more mobility than back when arming was a thing. I think there’s better ways to solve the scatter trap problem without creating a situation where every hunter spec needs scatter shot with arming time.
TBH Hunter doesn’t need much:
Maybe reduce AiS cast time because it entire kit is about getting AiS off so we can do big arcanes, RF resets, etc.
Reduce binding to 30sec or less, allowing us to use it for trapping. Or speed up the travel time of trap. Either would immensely help consistently trapping outside of melee range.
Scatter shot baseline is pretty important. MM has zero choice in its talents, every hunter runs the same 3 and maybe one or two matches you get to choose something different SV and BM each have one free talent slot for choice.
Reduce steady shot cast time from 1.8 to 1.5 (basically a QoL) change.
Survival just needs a big damage buff on raptor/mongoose.
Then bug fixing and QoL for explosive, bursting and pet things that almost never gets addressed. Our class still suffers from disengage disconnect among other poor or sloppy mechanics.
It made for more complex play. If I did a poor job of covering the trap, then it’s on me. That said, It was much easier to have my teammate stun the kill target or off target then run to the CC target so I could get trap while I’m using scatting on the off target. The whole point of scatter was to get traps. It’s incredibly pointless we still have the ability when we can’t even use it for getting traps. Terrible design.
2v2 i dont have any issues kiting a warrior, but when you have a dk/ret or a dk/war or a ww/war or a enh/war or any double melee they just train you, its pretty tough to do much as a MM hunter, pretty tough to get traps out too. Remember that not everyone is a 2400+ hunter, so yea, possible and probable are very different things.
I dont see why mage(whos way tankier than hunter still btw), gets to blink > aoe scatter shot and then cast poly on no CD, while hunters have to disengage (and often times get stunned mid air) then scatter > trap > to only get 7.5 sec of CC. I can try to walk there, but its often not easy. Hunter is supposed to be a control class, so give them control. When I was playing with SV/BM, intimidation or hook into trap felt so smooth, i dont see why MM needs to have scatter on a DR for that. After all, we’re talking 30 sec CDs CCs here.
I played hunter at 2200+ from TBC to Cata. It’s always been a “CC the healer, kill a DPS” class. I feel for hunters, bc they aren’t all that great right now but if you want a mages toolkit, go play a mage
And wars, and rogues, and dks, and if DH did not die in 2 shots they would be hard to kite also. Every melee class has multiple gap closers and 70%+ snares now. Shamans and pallys are the easiest classes to kite as a hunter.
No you don’t or otherwise you would say crap like this
