Mistweaver and the uselessness of soothing Mist

So, before anyone says anything about the title, I understand that soothing mist is one of the strongest single target healing tools in the entire game. HOWEVER, in ALMOST every situation, channeling soothing mist takes longer than to just cast vivify or enveloping mist. Has anyone else found a way to make it worthwhile to cast unless you have a tank who is taking so much damage that it warrants it?

Also, soothing mist was perfect last xpac tbh, it was something you didn’t really think about using, but something that happened as an additive.

Does anyone have any counterpoints? I would love to hear them, or at least a good reason as to ever cast it ever in raid.

Basically the only use for soothing mist as of right now, is if you’re tunneling into someone or are using it to move or reapply jade serpent statue, that’s about it

Which interestingly enough was more use than it had in legion where you either afked or played around just not having the cast start because it was so piss weak

It wasn’t a button last xpac, it was just a passive thing that you could do after casting an actual healing ability, this xpac its annoying to use, especially with the totem tbh. you are right, it is more important than last xpac, but i still feel like it should be used more since it seems like the perfect monk ability. it makes me feel like im play mistweaver more than any other ability this xpac

It’s great in pvp but annoying in dungeons

Didn’t soothing mist have a 0.5 sec GCD so you could get the instant casts off faster? Has that changed?

It takes 1.5 sec for vivify to get a heal off on a target, but if you channel mist first then cast vivify, the heal goes off on the target in 1 sec, however you pay for the rest of the global CD on the back end. Enveloping mist is a 2 sec cast, so you should never ever cast that outside a channeling mist.

This. Also, soothing mist is our most mana efficient heal (if I recall correctly) so it’s definitely worth the time spent channeling

It’s more mana efficient than vivify or EnvM, of which those 3 are our only “focusable” ST heals. However, in a raid environment you’ll get much more mana efficiency by popping EF when Upwelling is >10 stacks, along with a consistent RJW in melee (especially in fights like Xanesh where there’s consistent AoE damage going out).

As far as 5 man groups go, the biggest reason to use Soothing Mist is for popping a quick EnvM onto the tank when you know they’re about to start taking heavy damage, and then streamlining viv’s to them (and as a byproduct, you’ll be cleave healing onto other targets with your ReM’s on them).

I see soothing mist as a primer for when I know a tank is about to take a lot of sustained damage.

Hell with vitality conduit, I seen just using soothing keep tanks up through rougher situations

For mythics I usually just take Well as a faux Lay on Hands for rough spots when I don’t have Cocoon for my tank (or dps, for that matter).

No, it has not changed, Just our gear has gotten better, My vivify cast time is sub .5 seconds with the Rising Mist build being FULL haste. GCD is barely shorter than the cast.

I mean… why would you want it to be very good? Sitting there channeling soothing mists would be incredibly boring gameplay and make you quite immobile. The rest of the kit is far more interesting and complex and also much rather spend those globals on dps.

Its really nice in pvp

Not everything is going to be super useful in every situation. It would be dumb to think so, or to even expect it.

I do enough single target healing with just a single cast of EvM with 35% haste. Its just about as fast, and saves me more mana in the long run. That’s my point, I can only see it being useful in PvP, which feels terrible, since I like the theme of the ability.

I mean, youre just completely wrong. Soothing Mist is a direct heal that allows you heal while using it. Instantly. So, no, its impossible to heal more and faster without it.
The purpose of it is for when you’re focusing one target. Like your main tank in a raid when they take a huge chunk, or you know theyre about it.
Its an extremely good ability.

It’s nice to have the ability available when you really need to keep someone alive. It would be a bit annoying if you had to stand and channel it all the time though.

Soothing Mist + Enveloping Mist + Vivify feels really smooth and enjoyable when you need to single target bust heal someone. Maybe that isn’t optimal anymore?

But it’s by far my favourite little healing combo in the game. The animations and flow feels perfect to me.

I still use double charge on tea for when I heal and 2 free mana costing viv’s go a long way, especially when I have 3 of those infusions traits.
It’s a huge amount of mastery, which ends up being most of my healing

I am only just getting back into WoW and leveling up different characters from 110 - 120. My go to has always been Holy Priest for heals but nostalgia aside MW feels so smooth to play I am not sure I can go back to Priest. The spec isn’t bloated with rubbish abilities to press for the sake of it and everything feels useful in one way or another.

While I don’t yet have enough haste to try this new build going around it feels like its very similar to Glimmer or Atonement in nature where you are trying to maintain as many buffs on targets as possible and then deal damage in some way to optimize the AOE healing.
