Missing/Bugged Ability Animations/Visuals

Quite a few combat animations have been bugged for a while now and more have recently been broken. Very annoying to lose the impact of your abilities because of missing animations.

  1. Hunter Cobra Shot when using a Gun or Crossbow. The Cobra Shot projectile will shoot into the target’s feet. Happens on every race/gender and only affects Cobra Shot while using a Gun/Crossbow. Cobra Shot while using a bow does not have this issue.

  2. Shaman Riptide is missing the heal over time animation. Riptide used to have lines and bubbles on the target during the heal over time portion of the spell (the same effect that is currently visible on Healing Stream Totem). This has been completely gone for quite a while now. Other classes did not lose their effects on similar spells (Priest’s Renew, Monk’s Renewing Mist, Druid’s Lifebloom).

  3. Melee abilities are missing effects. Before the 9.0 patch, this bug only affected the 6 most recently added Allied Races (Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran, Mechagnome, Mag’har Orc, Zandalari Troll, and Vulpera). However with the prepatch, it now affects the 6 allied races mentioned above as well as Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Draenei, Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll, Blood Elf, and Pandaren. Only Worgen, Goblin, Void Elf, Lightforged Draenei, Nightborne, and Highmountain Tauren are not affected. This bug causes all race specific melee animations to have no visual effect. This does not affect the generic animations that are shared between races (ie. Execute uses the same animation for every race and works fine). For example, Envenom on a Human Female Rogue, the character does the spin animation but there is no green glow/effect on the weapons as there should be. Another example, Slam on an Orc Male Warrior with a Two-handed weapon, he does the big overhand animation and the weapon comes down with no glowing blue effect.

  4. Pandaren Female missing melee animation. This is similar to the previous bug. The Female Pandaren specific animation for melee attacks has been completely removed and replaced with a slow downward motion. This is different from any other generic melee animations which replaced some race specific ones, and can not be an intentional change.

While these bugs are not game breaking performance wise, they really do take away from the experience of enjoying your characters visuals. With all the new customization options added recently, it’s a shame that these problems exist and have existed for so long. Any Beast Mastery hunter that wants to transmog the perfect gun for their armor has to deal with one of their main abilities being visually broken. There are some great visual designs in WoW and it sucks to see them broken.

Just to quickly add to this, I noticed on my Kul Tiran hunter that the idle gun animation is no longer properly holding gun models, when he did hold it properly in 8.3. I’ve included a screenshot:

After reviewing footage from my recent sludgefist progression it seems that my female pandaren racial animations are still playing properly. Heart Strike (while not standing in death and decay, uses Special2H), Marrowrend (uses SpecialFL) and Death and Decay (SpellCastOmni) being the only ones that still use my racial animations.

Fire mage animations still look great, so we are done here.
