Seems pretty arbitrary that some pets are not available to place in a pet bed. For example, I am unable to place Oonar’s arm or stinkrot despite them being very similar to other undead pets.
Why can’t I place these pets?

According to a WoWhead comment, Stinkrot “lets out a gassy cloud and kills creatures around it for its idle effect”. Essentially same issue as the Creepy Crate.
I don’t see Oonar’s Arm on the restricted list, but that one may be due to the “rock, paper, scissors” thing when it is near another one? Again, that is the only thing I could find from the WoWhead comments that describe something extra to the pet that might get it restricted.
On top of that, rare pet color variations also don’t appear like they’re supposed to. Like my Red variation of boulderfang from zaralek just appears as it’s regular green. ![]()
The common themes are whether a pet interacts with other NPCs in any way, if a pet is too human-like, or if a pet has something else that doesn’t make sense like a static kite string.
The former likely comes with technical or performance challenges, the latter would look really weird while roaming. And the whole “don’t allow children or children like entities in a fully customizable home setting” should be self explanatory.
There are some pets from the above that slipped through the cracks, but not many. It’s similar to how some outdoor lights were still allowed when all outdoor lighting was supposed to be disabled.
I dont see why they restricted Sister of Temptation pet except for the dumb reason of it being a succubus. Was building a warlock house with all my demon battle pets and oh what a surprise that one is restricted.
it interacts with critters.
Does the snail kill players placed decor pets?
hopefully, they can make ‘dummy’ pets that disables their extra effect so we can at least shorten that list somewhat.
Well that’s just not entirely true, Wretched Servant is about as humanoid looking as pets come and you can place them around no problem.
He was one of the lucky ones, along with most of the murlocks that look like NPCs like gildan, gillidan, gilvanas, gilduin, w/e their weird murlock names are
That would be wonderful, and a really polished way to deal with the situation. I wouldn’t mind having “copies” of the pets in my pet journal so that they could be used in housing.
I don’t have high hopes that will be the outcome though.
I didn’t do much yet but I was able to place the little Pandaren dude outside of my home next to the stairs to greet people when they arrive. Sunk the pet bed into the ground though.
I won’t be doing much with pets until I get my homes sorted, which I’m not going crazy with right now. I really do look forward to adding a bunch though.
I would like to add that my beloved Zul’Aman Frog Friend Mojo is also not on the list.
What was the reason for that? I thought it might be interesting to have Uuna haunt an old guest room, but was not available. It seemed like a good use of non-combat ghost. So, I went with Widget the Departed, instead.
I’m more upset that my totally non combat Argent Squire cannot be used. I wanted him wandering in my barracks.
read the fine print: Some pets will eat other pets.
So careful with your little critters
