Has it been explained what the chunk of land Northwest of the Eastern Plaguelands is all about? It’s surrounded completely by mountains and coast and appears impassable. It is the one piece of the map that remains undiscovered.
I am certain it has been discussed but searching for it in forums is a nightmare.
It’s that place Deathholme? in southern Ghostlands. Because Ghostlands and Eversong are on a different “server” than the rest of EK, there’s a mismatch in the map.
(not sure what the right term is, but that area is lumped in with the rest of TBC)
Nope, if you mouse over it, it does not light up as being selectable. It is not apart of Ghostlands and there is a distinct border there to differentiate the zones.

I did write there is a mismatch on the map. When you go through the loading screen between EPL and Ghostlands, you are going to a separate area not connected to EK. That’s part of why you can’t fly there.
There is a distinct border regardless how mismatched the land is.
Western and Eastern Plaguelands touches it, as well as Ghostlands.
It sounds like what you’re talking about is the actual zone for strathholme. There are multiple videos in it. So its not developed however, the space is occupied for the instance. Hope that helps.
That is a huge space for a instance! Ahn’Qiraj shows up when you select it. So why not this then? Zul’Farrak would have its own fiefdom too if that was the case, but you see it in Tanaris. Scholomance is the same, it does not have its own borders either.
I am not saying you are incorrect and that might be the answer gave, but it sounds incredibly lame.
It’s supposed to be where stratholme and quel’thalas touch butts with eachother.
When they tried to connect Quel’thalas to the eastern kingdoms map in cataclysm, they used that stretch of land to try to help bridge it, but never finished. I’m pretty sure you can fly underneath the invisible wall that blocks off that area and see how they tried to connect the two areas.

Oh, I must try that.
Just placed some TomTom points, and both Stratholme and Deathholme seem to be located there:
Then there should not be a border between those zones.
Stratholme is definitely in the Eastern Plaguelands, and Deatholme is in Ghostlands.
I think they should make use of it for a Scarlett Crusade raid reachable from the source of the Thondroril river.
Quite right, but obviously they handed the assignment to someone with no cartography experience.
Ok, I just flew there and there is a little valley that is unreachable north of the Thondril river if you look. It is nowhere near Stratholme.
Understanding mismatching and game design, etc, etc… This is a viable zone that should be completed.
It is also cool, you can see Stratholme completely on fire too.
This tiny area’s purpose is unknown, but it has been speculated over the years that it was supposed to be the lush forest region of Quel’thalas, a vanilla zone that later made it into the game as the starting zone for the Blood Elves in The Burning Crusade expansion.
And since the original idea of Quel’thalas, or whatever the purpose of this zone was, got abandoned, an unfinished chunk of land remained there that players couldn’t reach.
From a Kotaku article that also lists how to get in there so I’m not linking it in case Bliz send me to the naughty corner.

That area was intended for the Dragon’s Isle raid and endzone that was scrapped in very early development. You can see the area on land was meant to connect with with islands in one zone.
Yes, but…
Blizzard lore is never set in concrete and they are famous doing whatever they want.
If you fly to the location, you can visually see that there is a valley that could be used.
It could become a space for loyalist to go to and flip off the Alliance’s Horde too! That would be too sweet.
An expansion all about a Murloc empire with a secret base there?
Maybe they can use it, but it’s going to have to fit in as a lesser part of an expansion. And they’ll have to explain how something was there that missed previous observation or perhaps link it to at least one of its neighbour zones.
They don’t have to explain anything though, or they can make up some dumb answer. The bottomline, it is unlike any other piece of the map no matter how you explain it. If you take your toon there, it is unflyable.
Since the creative direction of Blizzard is run by IOI anyway, a Murloc empire is quite viable.
