Missing hekili addon

I am not sure I am doing the best damage. I am also being slow in button press. I started hekili in TWW and it was so good to use. But now I feel I suck at this game.

The one button rotation would be the same most likely.

highlight assist in game is not too bad

Sounds like hekili was a crutch you leaned on too much instead of learning the rotation, they’re fine to use as a helper when you dont know what you’re doing but relying on it was a mistake

The highlight assist does the same thing as Hekili, although it doesn’t promise to give you maximum DPS. Go check your rotation on Icy Veins or Wowhead. It’ll probably be a bit of gobbledegook, that’s fine. Then go use the highlight assist for a while, until you’re familiar with what your buttons do.

Then go back and check that rotation again. This time it will make a bit more sense, and you’ll start to see some of the logic in some of the decisions it makes, and you’ll find yourself knowing when you should do something other than what the highlight assist says. Then you go run with that for a bit, until you’re comfortable monitoring that mechanic.

Then go back and check the rotation again. It’ll make even more sense now, and you’ll see other places where you’re making what are now obvious mistakes.

Just keep repeating this cycle, and you will get better and better. And, eventually, you won’t even need to stare at your buttons. Just a flash in the corner of your vision will tell you all you need to know about your current combat state.

^ do that on a training dummy, and sim your character (Without all raid buffs and lust, this inflates the dps a lot) then check how much dps you actually do

I don’t think the highlight assist or one-button assist actually follow patch updates or build a sim-based priority for maximum damage. The highlight assist priority feels more like a spec being played by someone just pressing whatever lights up first.

Not sure if this still works, but OP can try to sim highlight assist vs. normal vs. one-button assist using use_blizzard_action_list=1 and use_cds_with_blizzard_action_list=1, along with one_button_mode=1 for the one-button assist.

In addition to the above, logical keybind setup is something far too few people pay attention to.

I won’t claim what works for me will work for everyone, but you should have a system that makes the most sense to you, and that is also replicable for other characters. This will allow you to develop proper muscle memory and massively cut down on the time it takes to learn a new class or spec since most of them operate roughly the same way.

If your burst rotation is 5 sequential abilities, put them on keys 1-5 so you’re always pushing them in the correct order. Is your spec a builder/spender? Put the builder on 1 and the spender on 2, right next to each other and in sequence. Abilities you only use if procced? Something like 4 or R that are as quick of a motion for your index finger as possible.

The key to maximizing your dps is hitting the correct buttons in the correct order as fast as possible.

It does have some basic “press this, then this” logic in there, so it’s not totally blind. Which is why it’s useful for players who just need to go hit buttons for a while and get the neural connection between “when I press this button, this happens” built up. And then it’s easier to follow the rotations in Icy Veins or Wowhead.

Just like the other “addon replacements” Blizzard built into the game it’s utter trash. It’s deliberately designed to provide the wrong information. It forces you to focus on your bars instead of the field, and it stripped out tracking of everything except the lol “rotation”.

They implemented it extremely poorly just like everything else. I’ve tried to make it work, but it doesn’t.

They made their choices so right now I’m just waiting for my sub to run out. Vote with your wallet people.

Hi OP I was in the same boat.

I used rotation helper most years I’ve played this game and only stopped at the start of the year.

Try a fresh restart and give it a college go see if you can try without it.

I mentioned my experiences:

Overall I think I like the game better now without it, but that’s 4 years and 3 months vs 4 months of not using Hero rotation/Hekilli

Your performance will pick up again

Couple of things helped me to learn better:

This.

All my stops are bound to the same key
Interrupt/taunts to the same key
Builders usually go in order, finishers bound to the same keys
E is always a cure/soothe
Shift S is always a situational one: typhoon, blight of tongue
Shift R is always a heal
Shift T is movement speed

Builds muscle memory and makes it easy to adjust when swapping between characters

Grab an addon like Blizkili, which basically takes the highlight assist but shows it as a single button version of Hekili.

Depending on your spec, it may kinda such or it may do really well. Ret Pally for example does very well using it.

obr does most your work, mostly just learning your cooldowns

:cherries:

Without Hekili I’m finding I’m spending more time staring at resource bars and cooldowns than I am on what is really happening around me. I’m able to play, but it’s just not as fun as it used to be. I liked just flowing with the moment and allowing my peripheral vision to handle the rest. Now it’s just aggravating. Some of it’s just me, health conditions, getting older, not having time to practice. I’m going to give it one more month, but if this feeling doesn’t go away - I’m done. I don’t see what they accomplished with removing hekili and similar addons. Their replacements just aren’t better and cause me more frustration.

I like Hekili. I wish we still had it. It wasn’t harming anyone.

Have either of you tried Max DPS Rotation Helper to see if its options help you? You’ll need the base addon and then the plugins for each class/spec.

To be fair, they could have done a Hekili-style rotation assist that followed the highlight assist’s rotation.
That would make it a little easier to keep track of what you’re supposed to be pressing, especially with Specs that have a lot of procs.

Put your main bar closer to the center of your screen and turn on assisted highlight. Should be very manageable, especially if you’re fury.

Some people also use one-button assist sparingly during movement-heavy parts of fights, that’s an option you could use.
