Am I actually screwed because I missed the prepatch for getting gear? I have bad gear from early season 1 last expansion.

Yes. And Shadowlands gearing now sucks, since they removed SLs dungeons from the dungeon finder.
I guess they think you’ll be so sorry you took time off that you’ll never unsub again, because you’ll live in fear you may miss gearing up your alts enough to do questing.

no, you have nothing to worry about. the prepatch gear wasn’t even anything to write home about (yeah it was okay for quickly gearing alts but it was only slightly better than late SL quest gear.)
all it means is that you will switch to dragonflight questing blues a little bit sooner. might make leveling a touch slower because you will need to be a bit more careful with your pulls. (but honestly, I’ve loved the dragonflight leveling anyways, so going a little slower is hardly the end of the world.) but the the prepatch gear itself would be getting replaced by lvl 65 or so anyways. so its nothing to worry about.

It’s slower for sure, but I forgot to get prepatch gear on my shaman was was doing DF slowly but surely
your gear will be fine.
if you have a crafting profession, you’ll be able to make at least one nice piece at 61.
rares are pretty soft and drop some nice stuff.
remember everything is multi-tap, so if you see someone killing stuff, join in

Just quest. I went into DF with literal BFA gear on my Shaman and it was fine.

My ilvl was literally 190 when I logged in. Even the 63 gear on the auction house is worse than LFR gear from last expansion. Massive punishment for not playing the end of last expansion, this is silly.
So basically the only option is to just play with my 190 ilvl gear and next time I better play the pre-patch because blizzard doesn’t have anything for returning/new players?
It is absolutely silly there is not a set of gear I can get somewhere that is even 250 ish ilvl to start the expansion, even 250 is massively low compared to the gear of people who played last season. Obviously people who played a lot and have gear should have better gear, but from what I can see it’s lvl 66 before I can get anything that was just decent last expansion.
60% of the leveling experience of this expansion i’ll be punished for not playing the end of last expansion is absolutely unacceptable.
they do… its called questing gear, even an ilvl of 190 is gonna be plenty for the intro quests, which hand out quest gear like candy… thats sorta why its there.

Buy the crafted gear off the AH. Then go do the Primal Storms. Past that, it depends on what content you’re doing.
I beg to differ. I geared up 13 characters to ilvl 270+ during the prepatch and anniversary event, while Shadowlands quest gear never went about ilvl 200 at max renown.
its still all going to get replaced by questing gear sooner or later. OP is acting like they are completely doomed and won’t even be able to -start- the expansion because they missed the prepatch.
oh nooooo, they replace all their gear by lvl 62 instead of 65… yeah the pre-patch gear was a nice little boost for those alts, but its hardly the end of the world.
i’ve been working on 2 alts, 1 of em that got full pre-patch gear, one that didn’t even hit 60 till after dragonflight launched. and i’ve barely noticed a difference between em.

Not at all. Just buy some low 200s ilvl BoEs off the AH, they’re cheap now.
If my guildie could level okay as a 180 fire mage, you’ll be fine.
It kind of sucks actually because nullified all the quest gear for many levels, sure was great having higher level gear but a real waste of dev resources making pre-patch obsolete their quest reward gear.
for Cataclysm and MoP, we were given NPCs who sell “Adventurers Supplies”, which had a full set of catch-up gear for everyone.
i have no idea why they chose to discontinue this.

For people who literally have nothing, the rate of getting quest gear is slow. By time I have a full set of equipment by completing quest I’ll be a big way through the leveling experience. It’s not slow if you already have a set, but people in my position literally have nothing.
All the auction house gear that is even close to LFR ilvl from last season is unique equip. Asking for gear worse than LFR from last expansion is not too much IMO. I’m literally asking for there to be any option period. The auction house is also absurdly expensive for really bad gear right now, and only a few equip slots are available.
I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying that no option for returning/new players who missed prehatch is absolutely silly. I’m playing the game and leveling, I’m not stuck, I’m not unable to quest, it is just silly it is nearly lvl 70 before I’ll have gear that was comparable to decent gear last expansion, and this whole problem is because I never played pre-patch.
How is not playing the pre-patch still a disadvantage until 60%+ through the leveling experience of a new expansion? It makes no sense. Everyone defending this is as silly as people claiming that the game is unplayable, both extremes are ridiculous.

Prepatch geat was 252 abd a few 272. Crafted gear is 330 and not expensive, so no.
