Missed Opportunities in WoW

What do you think are some missed opportunities from Blizzard that they could’ve added into World of Warcraft?

I’ll start first. For me, Blizzard missed huge opportunities by not turning some areas into fully functioning cities.

Suramar City (Nightborne) could’ve been made a city for the Horde. This giant city could’ve been made easier to traverse too by adding portals or warps to each district.

Shadowforge City (DI Dwarf) could’ve been made an Alliance city. Dark Iron Dwarves could use a mole machine to allow party/raid members to easily get to the city, and if you didn’t have access to a Dark Iron Dwarf to get you there, enter through Blackrock Mountain or a portal.

Mechagon City (Mechagnome) could’ve also been made an Alliance city. This could set out to be a new starting area for both Mechagnomes and Gnomes, since Gelbin and Prince Erazmin rule over Mechagon City and Gnomeregan is lost still (for now?).

Tazavesh, the Veiled Market could’ve been made a neutral city. This place already has all of the designated areas for a city. Mailroom, auction house, portal room, etc.

There’s a few more areas they could update to become cities in the future. The goblins could finally finish their construction in Azshara Crater to build their capital city, the Worgen can finally take back Gilneas City, and the Darkspear Trolls could build more upon the Echo Isles to turn into a city.

It just feels like missed opportunities by Blizzard. Just by adding a few of these as fully functioning cities could add A LOT to the game and more to build upon in the future.

I was always disappointed that they never played up the mages vs. warlocks angle. Specifically, when Dalaran first became accessible in WotLK, my warlock just strolled right in, same as a paladin or a druid, no questions asked. Here I was, walking down the streets of Dalaran, demon by my side, and not so much as a request to put it on a leash.

Lorewise, mages see warlocks as reckless abusers of dangerous magic who will almost certainly get everyone around them killed, and warlocks see mages as knowledge-hoarders and chickens too scared to go after REAL power. Imagine if there was a battleground themed around this, each side recruiting players of either faction to show those other guys in bathrobes how magic should be done.

But nope, no acknowledgement, not even passing recognition. Come Legion, we’ve even set up shop in Dalaran’s basement, right next to the Violet Tower, and Khagdar practically makes me his official best buddy. What a waste.

A number of QoL changes would have made WoW a lot more enjoyable:

  • Account wide rep. This is a no brainer.

  • Job system like FFXIV. Swap your class on the fly without having to log out and back in. This in turn would make point 1 more sensible.

Actually, now that I think about it, considering Blizz have yet to implement auto-looting of DB’s in Diablo 3 (unless that’s been changed recently), they really seem to be against QoL vs forcing grinding.
