I use this macro on my BM:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=focus, help] Misdirection; [target=pet, exists] Misdirection; Misdirection
Ran a few dungeons today, and most time the Misdirection skill icon was greyed out. Sometimes it spontaneously lights up, and I can use it, but there is no predicting. What could be the problem?

Try logging out and logging back in. I just had the exact same issue on my Horde Hunter but this character’s Misdirect was fine, relogging fixed the issue for me.
Edit: I also noted that pulling the spell directly from the spellbook onto my bar didn’t fix the issue, so it’s not a problem with your macro I don’t think (I use the same one)
Double Edit: This just in - I now realize relogging only temporarily fixed the issue, it’s back to being greyed out, rip.
Same issue here. Seems random.
It’s not on CD when its greyed out right? Doesn’t MD have a 30s cooldown?
Nope - it just randomly decides to grey out whenever it wills. However seeing as how I am not having this issue on my Surv Hunter and only on my BM Hunter, I’m wondering if that is where the issue lies.
Phew, I thought it was me, I was asking other BM Hunters in chat but never got a reply.
When I click on anything I see a grey dot but they ability never lights up or goes on CD when I click it. Nor does it work in my macro.
This is a huge problem as my DPS pet can’t hold aggro when Growl threat diminishes.
Nor can I MD to the tank in a raid when DPSing adds.
I haven’t played my hunter since this bug as I am sick of dying in 102 ilvl gear because FD and Growl is on CD so there is no way to threat drop.
I’ve never ever in 10 years hated playing my hunter so this is a first.
Just adding to the count, MD is bugged. As others have noted it seems to be random. Had to Feign Death to drop threat rather than a survival tool.
Tangentially, note that you can use @ as an alias of target= in macro conditionals. In other words, [@pet] and [target=pet] are equivalent.
I found in another forum a workarround that works.
Since I started use it i didn’t have issues.
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=5 [@focus, help] [@pet, nodead, exists] Missdirection
The thing here is using “/castsequence” with any reset time. I read in some place that it happens when you spam Missdirection while in CD and the guys use it to avoid spam accidentally,

It’s a bug with misdirect. Had the same problem and found this thread on the internet. I logged out and back in and my misdirect is no longer greyed out.

Still bugged, any response from Blizzard would be appreciated.
Haven’t ever had this issue until this morning, and relogging only temporarily fixes it. In fact, when I log back in, the power goes on cooldown with the timer and all. I believe the power is just not properly going into a cooldown cycle like it should.

Unfortunately, not likely to happen. Blizzard’s standard reply for something like this is to mention it only after it’s been fixed, in a larger blue post along with other fixes. No reason to reply unless they need clarification of how the bug happens, but we don’t even know that.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if this is really low priority. It doesn’t break the game since you can play perfectly fine without using Misdirect. And we can’t reliably reproduce the bug, which means it’s hard to figure it out, which can take a lot of time to fix. Not the type of thing any programmer wants to deal with when they’re busy with a delayed expansion launch.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this stays bugged until after Shadowlands is live.
To be fair, bugs are fixed by the QA team, not the peeps tasked with coding new content. Bugs certainly get prioritized by their scope (how many users are affected) and severity (how substantially it affects those affected), and MD is only moderate on both accounts, but don’t think this is an issue with bugs not being fixed because they need to add new things in. I don’t know of a single major software company that doesn’t run separate QA teams for large user-facing applications.
The Neural Silencer or Magical Intrusion Dampener was bugging it out for me so if you have that on your character click it off
Edit: If your focus target has one on it’ll also grey out your Misdirect bugging it.

Not that.
This problem also isn’t isolated to BM spec. On my hunter, I have the same issue in MM spec.
On another note is feign death bugged? Using it in dungeons often means the mob still beats on me until dead OR they run around The place as if the Benny Hill show was back then come and destroy me.
Does adding camo to a macro fix this?
Had this happen to me as well. only on one of my hunters so far. Don’t use it a whole lot but its nice to help tank get things back under control when the S**t hits the fan!
This is definitely still bugged. Avyanae, on Lightbringer, has that bug, although I did remove the Dampener Engi item buff, since I didn’t know about that. About to test if it will stop bugging out or not.
On Thrall, my army of hunters don’t have that problem.
Edit: For Avyanae, as she is an engineer, clicking off the buff from the Dampener item resolved my issue. Strange how something that is supposed to help you actually works AGAINST you.
